2019-20シーズンのオーストラリア・Aリーグのグランドファイナルが30日に行われ、メルボルン・シティを1-0で破ったシドニーFCが2年連続5度目の優勝を果たした。
Aリーグは新型コロナウイルス(COVID-19)の感染拡大を受け、3月24日にリーグ戦の無期限中断を決定。その後、7月中旬に再開に漕ぎ着けた。
そういった中、レギュラーシーズンを首位で終えたシドニーFCは、上位6チームで争われるファイナルステージではリーグ6位のパース・グローリーを2-0で退けると、グランドファイナルではリーグ2位のメルボルン・シティとの対戦。
試合は0-0のスコアのまま90分の戦いを終える接戦となったが、延長前半に自力の差を見せつける。100分、相手陣内中央のMFルーク・ブラッタンが上げた浮き球のパスに反応した右サイドバックのDFライアン・グラントがゴール前に走り込んでヘディングシュートを叩き込み、チームを優勝に導く値千金のゴールとした。

ビッグネーム揃わず観客動員ガタ落ち? 豪州Aリーグ最大の集客力を誇るシドニーダービー、今季3度目の対戦はマタ欠場が確実に
Aリーグ・メン最大の集客力を誇るシドニーダービーだが、今季3度目の対戦は観客動員が激減する可能性もありそうだ。 酒井宏樹や水沼宏太など、日本人選手も数多く参戦するオーストラリア1部のAリーグ・メン。 24-25シーズンを迎えるにあたっては、かつてバイエルンやユベントスなどで活躍した元ブラジル代表FWドグラス・コスタがシドニーFCに加入し、ビッグネームの到来ということに。 一方、ウェスタン・シドニー・ワンダラーズには、チェルシーやマンチェスター・ユナイテッド、ヴィッセル神戸に在籍した元スペイン代表FWフアン・マタが加入。シドニーの両雄に世界的ビッグネームが揃ったのである。 これにより「シドニーFC vs ウェスタン・シドニー・ワンダラーズ」はAリーグ・メンNo.1の集客力をもつ対戦カードということに。 いきなり第1節で実現したワンダラーズホームの「2万7496人」、第5節シドニーFCホームの「3万0777人」は、いずれも両軍ホームゲームの今季最多であり、今季のAリーグ・メン全体でも1位・2位。2試合ともコスタ&マタが揃って出場し、シドニーダービーを盛り上げた。 また、両軍とも当該ダービー以外のホームゲーム観客動員は、上述の数字に遠く及ばず。ウェスタンに至っては6000〜7000人が常であり、シドニーFCも1万人を少し超える程度。まさにドル箱となったシドニーダービーである。 そんななか、レギュラーシーズンの最終対決が2月8日に開催予定。 ところがオーストラリア『news.com』によると、ウェスタンは1月31日の試合でマタがハムストリングを負傷。加入からケガなしだったなか、開始11分で交代を余儀なくされ、8日には間に合わないことが確実となった。 マタはダービーを3日後に控えた5日、「なにせハムストリングだ。新しい良いニュースはないよ。シドニーFC戦は雰囲気が格別に良くなるし、出場できなければ残念だ」とコメント。「チームの勝利を願う」とも付け加えた。 マタ欠場がほぼ確実な今季3度目のシドニーダービー。集客力の低さゆえ財政難に陥るAリーグだが、当日の観客動員やいかに…ドグラス・コスタ単体で集客効果がないことは、昨季との比較でも明らかになっているところである。 2025.02.05 17:58 Wed
