アストン・ビラやマンチェスター・シティでプレーした元イングランド代表MFガレス・バリー(39)が現役を引退した。
バリーはアストン・ビラの下部組織で育ち、1998年7月にファーストチームへ昇格。12シーズンを過ごし、公式戦432試合に出場し51ゴール27アシストを記録。イングランド代表にも上り詰めた。
2009年7月にマンチェスター・シティへと完全移籍すると、シティでもレギュラーとしてプレー。公式戦175試合に出場し8ゴール18アシストを記録。2013年9月からはエバートンへ1年間のレンタル移籍を経験すると、翌年には完全移籍。エバートンでも公式戦155試合に出場し5ゴール12アシストを記録。2017年8月にWBAへ完全移籍していた。
WBAでは3シーズンを過ごし、公式戦61試合に出場し2ゴール2アシスト。2019-20シーズンはチャンピオンシップ(イングランド2部)で3試合の出場に留まり、シーズン終了後に契約満了で退団。そのまま引退となった。
23年間のキャリアで公式戦826試合に出場し66ゴール59アシスト。プレミアリーグでは史上最多の653試合に出場し53ゴール51アシストを記録していた。

問題児グリーリッシュ、バカンス先で泥酔し路上で爆睡

今季限りでの退団表明のアレマニー氏がバルセロナ残留へ! アストン・ビラ行き噂も翻意
