マンチェスター・シティに所属するイングランドFWラヒーム・スターリングが急きょメンバーから外されることが決まった。イギリス『デイリー・メール』が報じている。

スターリングは11日に代表合流。食堂にいたリバプールのDFジョー・ゴメスに突っかかり、首を掴もうとしたことで、その場のチームメイトらが仲裁に入る事態に陥ったという。

その両者は代表ウィーク直前に行われたプレミアリーグ第12節のゲームでも口論に。そうした背景が何らかの形で今回の一件に発展したものとみられる。
これを受け、イングランドサッカー協会(FA)はスターリングに関して、14日にホームで行われるユーロ2020予選のモンテネグロ代表戦に向けたメンバーからの除外を決めた。

イングランドを率いるガレス・サウスゲイト監督は「チーム全体の総意として、モンテネグロ戦のメンバーにラヒームを含めないことにした。我々にとって、大きな課題と強みの1つは、クラブでのライバル心と代表チームでの活動を分けること。残念ながら、昨日のゲームで抱いた感情を抱いたままだった」と述べている。
ただ、完全な追放処分というわけではなく、スターリングは引き続きチームに同行する予定とのこと。したがって、17日にアウェイで行われるユーロ2020予選のコソボ代表戦は出場できる可能性を残している模様だ。

北中米W杯の欧州予選組み合わせ決定! 12カ国+POの4カ国が出場権獲得、来年3月からスタート【2026年北中米W杯欧州予選】

イングランド代表のユニフォームが変? ファンが気づいた異変はベテランキットマンのまさかのミス…「間違ってしまった」

イングランド代表が新ユニフォームを発表、赤ではなくなったアウェイは賛否分かれる「初めてじゃないか?」「そのチョイスはなしだ」
