クリンスマン「アメリカは最後の1秒まで戦う」

アメリカ代表は16日、ワールドカップ(W杯)初戦でガーナ代表に2-1と勝利を収めた。ユルゲン・クリンスマン監督は、苦しんだ末の勝利を喜んでいる。

開始30秒でMFクリント・デンプシーが先制点を奪ったアメリカ。その後はガーナに攻めたてられながらしのいでいたが、82分についに同点とされてしまう。だがその4分後、CKから途中出場のDFジョン・アンソニー・ブルックスが値千金の勝ち越し弾を挙げた。

このリードを守りきったアメリカは、過去2大会で敗れていたガーナを相手に雪辱。クリンスマン監督は試合後、次のように語った。『ESPN』が伝えている。

「我々は最後の1秒まで戦う。非常に苦しんだが、素晴らしい勝利だ。改善しなければいけないことがあるのは確かだがね。アメリカは常に素晴らしいスピリットを持っている」

「我々が望んでいたことだった。望んでいた勝ち点3を手にしたんだ。我々は前進できる」

また、先制点を挙げ、マン・オブ・ザ・マッチに選ばれたデンプシーは、このように述べている。

「夢が実現したようだよ。僕らは素晴らしい気迫を見せた。もっとうまくやらなければいけなかったところはある。でも、この勝利は次の試合に向けて自信になるよ。選手たちはハートを見せたね」

さらに、決勝点を挙げたブルックスは、次のように喜びをあらわにした。

「チームメートには、2日前にゴールを決める夢を見たと言っていたんだ。それが実現したね」

女子選手の意見を参考に配慮し白パンツを中止、ナイキが女子W杯出場13カ国の新ユニフォームを発表!
