かつてマンチェスター・ユナイテッドで主将を務め、インテルではセリエA優勝も経験しているヤング。37歳の大ベテランとなったが、今季もプレミアリーグ11試合出場で1得点を記録するなど、第一線でプレーを続けている。
そんなヤングがイングランド代表として最後にプレーしたのは4年前のロシアW杯。にもかかわらず、先月にはカタールW杯へ向けた予備メンバー55人に選出されており、これには驚かされたとイギリス『サン』で語っている。
「(55人の)ラージリストは代表チームのスタッフが僕に送ってきたんだ。自分の名前は冗談かな?と思ったよ。きっと誰かが書き加えたんだろうとね(笑)」
最終的には本大会に臨む26人に残れなかったものの、招集されれば迷いなく応じるとも口にしている。
「自分は今でも最高のレベルでプレーできる!と自信を持つのは本当に大切なことだよ。普段から若い選手たちに『決して夢を諦めてはいけないよ』と言ってるんだ」

「寄せすぎ」「コピーだ」アストン・ビラの新エンブレムがチェルシーに酷似?実は過去のデザインを踏襲したもの

バレンシアがバレネチェアを獲得…今夏ユーベからアストン・ビラに完全移籍
バレンシアは30日、アストン・ビラからアルゼンチン人MFエンソ・バレネチェア(23)を1年間のレンタル移籍で獲得したことを発表した。 母国のニューウェルズ・オールドボーイズの下部組織出身のバレネチェアは、2019年に加入したスイスのシオンでヨーロッパでのキャリアをスタート。その後、2020年1月にユベントスNext Gen(U-23チーム)に加入。セリエCに所属するクラブで主力を担うと、2022年11月に行われたパリ・サンジェルマン戦でユベントスでのファーストチームデビューを飾った。 ダイナミックなセントラルMFは昨シーズンにレンタル先のフロジノーネでセリエA36試合に出場し、今シーズンはユベントスのファーストチームでの活躍も期待されたが、ブラジル代表MFドウグラス・ルイスの獲得オペレーションに際してU-21イングランド代表MFサミュエル・イリング・ジュニア(20)と共にアストン・ビラへ完全移籍していた。 そして、今シーズンはバレンシアの地で研鑽を積むことになった。 2024.08.30 23:31 Fri
