アストン・ビラの元イングランド代表DFアシュリー・ヤング(37)が代表復帰に意欲を見せている。

かつてマンチェスター・ユナイテッドで主将を務め、インテルではセリエA優勝も経験しているヤング。37歳の大ベテランとなったが、今季もプレミアリーグ11試合出場で1得点を記録するなど、第一線でプレーを続けている。

そんなヤングがイングランド代表として最後にプレーしたのは4年前のロシアW杯。にもかかわらず、先月にはカタールW杯へ向けた予備メンバー55人に選出されており、これには驚かされたとイギリス『サン』で語っている。

「(55人の)ラージリストは代表チームのスタッフが僕に送ってきたんだ。自分の名前は冗談かな?と思ったよ。きっと誰かが書き加えたんだろうとね(笑)」

最終的には本大会に臨む26人に残れなかったものの、招集されれば迷いなく応じるとも口にしている。

「現役引退したわけじゃないし、今はするつもりもない。僕が必要だと思ってくれるならいつだって行くよ。イングランド代表から引退するときは、キャリア全体に終止符を打つときさ」

「寄せすぎ」「コピーだ」アストン・ビラの新エンブレムがチェルシーに酷似?実は過去のデザインを踏襲したもの
