イングランド代表のガレス・サウスゲイト監督が惨敗劇を振り返った。欧州サッカー連盟の公式サイト『UEFA.com』が報じている。

14日にUEFAネーションズリーグ(UNL)リーグAグループ3の第4節でハンガリー代表をホームに迎え撃ったイングランド。4日に60年ぶりの金星を献上したハンガリーとの再戦だったが、退場者も出して0-4の大敗を喫した。

返り討ちにされ、4試合未勝利で最下位に転落したサウスゲイト監督は「良いスタートを切ったが、先制点を取られ、少し自信をなくした。後半の早い段階でチャンスもあったが、2失点目は本当に致命的だった」と語った。

また、「若いチームを選んだのは私の責任。ハンガリーとの2試合ではバランスがうまく取れなかった。1失点後、不安が少し忍び寄り、そこから立ち直れなかったんだ」と続け、改めて肩を落とした。

「チャンスを作れてはいた。ゴール前に飛んできてDFにクリアされるようなボールもあったが、明らかに得点できていない。今夜は何人かの先発選手を休ませたかったが、厳しい夜だった」

1位に輝いたのは、アストン・ビラでプレーするスイス女子代表のアリーシャ・レーマン。世界一セクシーなアスリートとしても知られ、インスタグラムのフォロワーは1340万人。元プロテニスプレーヤーのロジャー・フェデラーを超え、インスタグラムで最も人気のあるスイス人アスリートとなっている。アストン・ビラでは2シーズンでFA女子スーパーリーグ(FAWSL)で43試合に出場し7ゴール。スイス代表としても38キャップを記録している。
