C・ロナウドの壁画が撤去…本拠地の衝撃映像にファン「写真を裂くのは簡単だが歴史を消すのは難しい」

オールド・トラッフォードにあるマンチェスター・ユナイテッドのポルトガル代表FWクリスティアーノ・ロナウドの壁画が撤去された。

今季でユナイテッド復帰2年目のロナウド。復帰1年目から公式戦24ゴールとさすがの活躍ぶりだったが、エリク・テン・ハグ新監督が就任した今季は序列が下がると、シーズン前の移籍騒動にはじまり、先月の試合では出場拒否および無断退席によって一時トップチーム追放処分を科されるなど、ベテランらしからぬ問題行動が目立っている。

もどかしい時間を過ごしているC・ロナウドは、イギリスのテレビ『TalkTV』にてクラブや指揮官を痛烈に批判。物議を醸すコメントの数々を残していた。

16日には『ESPN』がオールド・トラッフォードに作成されたC・ロナウドらの壁画が撤去される様子を公開。「写真を引き裂くのは簡単だが、その歴史を消すのは難しい」、「それでも彼はレジェンドだよ」、「ロナウドがいるという理由だけで、壁画全体を取り下げるユナイテッドの無礼を証明しています」、「彼らは幼稚な振る舞いをしている」などの嘆きや避難の声が上がっていた。

ただ、イギリス『ミラー』によれば、このタイミングでの壁画撤去はあらかじめ決められていたとのことだ。

イギリスでは10月から11月にかけてラグビーリーグ・ワールドカップ(W杯)が開催されており、19日には女子の決勝、オーストラリア女子代表vsニュージーランド女子代表と、男子の決勝、オーストラリア代表vsサモア代表がオールド・トラッフォードで開催される。この宣伝のために壁画は張替えられることになっていたとのことだ。

タイミングがタイミングであっただけにセンセーショナルな印象を与えた撤去映像。ただ、壁画の問題がクリアになったのみで、C・ロナウドとクラブとの関係に進展はなさそうだ。

「高価な食べ物はない」ギネス記録樹立、C・ロナウドのあの肉体の秘訣を専属シェフが明かす
