ルイス・エンリケ監督とグアルディオラ監督は、バルセロナやスペイン代表でチームメイトとしてプレー。監督になってからもグアルディオラ監督の後任としてルイス・エンリケ監督がバルセロナBの監督に就任するなど、縁が深い2人となっている。

グアルディオラ監督はマンチェスター・シティで現在指揮を執っているが、先日イベントで2023年の契約満了でチームを去ることを示唆。その際に「次は代表監督」と目標を語っており、話題となった。

そんな中、26日にカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)欧州予選に向けたスペイン代表メンバーを発表したルイス・エンリケ監督。その会見で、グアルディオラ監督について問われ、スペイン代表の監督になるべきだと語った。
