チェルシーは3日、イタリア人指揮官のエンツォ・マレスカ氏(44)の新監督就任を発表した。
契約期間は7月1日から5年間となる。さらに1年間の延長オプションがついている。
監督就任が決定したマレスカ氏はクラブを通じてコメントしている。
「世界最大のクラブの1つであるチェルシーに加入することは、どんな監督にとっても夢だ。だからこそ、この機会にとても興奮している」

引退後は指導者の道を歩み、アスコリやセビージャ、ウェストハムでアシスタントコーチを務めると、マンチェスター・シティのU-23チームで初の監督に挑戦。その後、パルマの監督に就任すると、2022年7月からはジョゼップ・グアルディオラ監督の下でシティのアシスタントコーチを務め、今シーズンからレスターで指揮を執っていた。
チャンピオンシップ(イングランド2部)を戦うレスターを指揮すると、チャンピオンシップでは31勝4分け11敗。それでも見事に優勝を果たし、チームをプレミアリーグに昇格させていた。来シーズンはプレミアリーグで指揮することも期待されたが、チェルシーを指揮することに。古巣との対決も注目が集まる。
なお、チェルシーはマウリシオ・ポチェッティーノ監督が今シーズンは率いており、最終的に6位でフィニッシュしカンファレンスリーグ(ECL)の出場権を獲得。ただ、方向性の違いもあり、シーズン終了後に契約解除となっていた。

調子上向きのチェルシー、理由は「Nintendo Switch」? チームバスで楽しむ姿が話題

母国での引退を願うチアゴ・シウバ、チェルシー下部組織に所属の息子2人がブラジル帰国を拒絶「来年まで持ち越すよ…」
