「それから長い間追跡している中島。本当にたくさん試合に出場していて、得点やアシストもしている。ドリブラーでここまで俊敏で爆発的なものを持っている選手は日本になかなかいない。前回のオリンピック代表の監督であったテグ(手倉森誠)さんともしっかりと話をして、オフェンス面で何かもたらせるのではないかという判断。ただ、守備面では代表で私が求めるレベルではない。様子を見たい」

「大迫は、クラブで真ん中でなく、横や後ろでもプレーしているが、良くなってきている。代表ではクラブとは全く違うアクションをしてほしい。常に背負った状態でプレーするのではなく、ゴールに向いてプレーして欲しい。この3人は素晴らしいヘディングを持っている。W杯本大会でもこれが重要になってくる。もちろんFKを貰えればの話。守備でもしっかりと守らなくてはいけない。大事になってくる。W杯ではFKが決定的な状況を作ることもある」

日本代表FW上田綺世(フェイエノールト)が、やはり笑顔だ。
3月の2026年北中米ワールドカップ(W杯)アジア2次予選で北朝鮮代表との連戦に臨む予定だった日本。だが、アウェイの平壌で開催予定だった試合が中止となったことで、ホームでの1試合のみで活動を終えた。
週末の試合に向けて選手たちが各自のクラブへと戻っている中、21日に行われたホームゲームで先発していた上田も28日にインスタグラムを更新。「応援ありがとうございました!」とファンやサポーターへの感謝の思いを綴っていた。
そんな中、その上田の投稿に添えられていた1枚の写真が話題だ。
上田は、キックオフ前にスターティングメンバー11人が並んで撮影される集合写真もアップ。他の10人がいかにも試合前というようなきりっとした表情を見せる中、上田だけは満面の笑顔だった。
上田が集合写真の撮影時に笑顔を見せるのは恒例のこと。アジアカップ2023の時も度々話題となっていたが、今回はそのアジアカップ以来の代表戦ということもあり、ファンからは「綺世いつも笑ってて可愛い!!!」、「いつも笑顔が素敵」、「今回もニッコニコ」、「スマイル待ってました!」、「とびきりの笑顔で可愛い」とまたも反響が集まっている。
今回はアウェイでの試合が中止となったこともあり、上田の笑顔も並んだ集合写真はこの時だけ。6月の2次予選でも、またこのとびきりの笑顔が見られるだろうか。

日本代表FW上田綺世(フェイエノールト)が、バーレーン代表戦でも笑顔だ。
31日、アジアカップ2023・ラウンド16でバーレーンと対戦した日本。ストライカーにはグループステージで3ゴールを決めている上田が起用された。
その上田は、久保建英(レアル・ソシエダ)のCKから強烈なヘディングシュートを放つなど序盤からゴールの匂いを漂わせると、後半に日本が失点を喫した直後に毎熊晟矢(セレッソ大阪)のパスから巧みなターンで相手3人を振り切りGKの股間を抜く豪快ゴール。ストライカーとしての仕事をしっかりと果たした。
そんな上田は、プレーとは別のところでも注目を集めている。
キックオフ前にスターティングメンバー11人が並んで撮影される集合写真で、上田は爽やかな笑顔。他の10人が臨戦態勢というようなきりっとした表情を見せる中、一際輝く笑顔を見せていた。

スポルティングCPの日本代表MF守田英正が、チームメイトのゴールセレブレーションを自分のものにしようとしている。
2022年に加入したスポルティングで重要な存在となっている守田。日本代表の中盤にも欠かせない存在となっており、アジアカップ2023のメンバーにも招集。主軸としての活躍が期待されている。
アジアカップの開幕が近づく中、守田ら選手たちは写真撮影を実施。ガッツポーズや笑顔をカメラに向けた。
その中で守田は、口の前で両手を組んで口を隠すようなポーズを披露。他の選手にはない独特な動きだったが、これはスポルティングのチームメイトのゴールセレブレーションの“パクリ”だったようだ。
このポーズは、スポルティングで今季からエースを務めるスウェーデン代表FWヴィクトル・ギョケレシュがゴールを決めた時に見せる動きだ。
守田は自身のSNSを更新。「これからはこのパフォーマンスでいきます。これは僕のです」のコメントとともにこのポーズの写真を添えている。
これには、スポルティングのFWマーカス・エドワーズ、DFゴンサロ・イナシオ、DFルイス・ネト、DFジェリー・サン・ユステらチームメイトたちもこぞって絵文字で反応。また、ギョケレシュも「モリタ、後はゴールするだけだ」と笑顔の絵文字を添えて反応している。
日本代表では、28試合に出場して2ゴールの守田。アジアカップでゴールを決めてこのセレブレーションを見せられるか。

テゲバジャーロ宮崎の元日本代表FW工藤壮人が、10月21日14時50分に死去した。32歳だった。
工藤は2日の練習時間外に体調不良を訴え、翌3日に医療機関の検査で水頭症の診断を受けて入院。11日に手術を受けて療養中だったが、容態が悪化し、17日からICU(集中治療室)にて治療に専念していることが18日にクラブから発表されていた。
水頭症とは、「脳室に髄液が過剰に溜まってしまったために脳を圧迫し、さまざまな症状を引き起こしてしまう疾患」とされており、くも膜下出血や脳出血、頭部外傷、髄膜炎などの頭蓋内疾患に引き続いて起こってしまうものもあるという。
治療に専念していた工藤には、古巣のクラブや元チームメイトを含むサッカー界からも多くの励ましのメッセージが届き、所属したクラブやその他のクラブのファンも回復を願っていたが、帰らぬ人となった。
工藤の訃報を受け、かつて所属した古巣が追悼のメッセージを送っている。
工藤がU-12から過ごし、トップチームでも活躍した柏レイソルはツイッターで「15年間広報をさせてもらってきて一番辛い仕事です。心よりご冥福をお祈りします」と追悼。柏では、公式戦通算262試合で92ゴール28アシストを記録した。
また、2017年から2020年まで在籍したサンフレッチェ広島は、22日のYBCルヴァンカップ決勝に工藤と共に戦うとしていた中での訃報を受け、言葉が出ません。謹んでご冥福をお祈りします。」とツイッターで追悼。広島では公式戦44試合で12ゴール2アシストを記録した。
さらに、広島在籍時に1年間期限付き移籍でプレーしたレノファ山口FCもツイッターにて「信じられません。謹んでご冥福をお祈りします。」と追悼。山口では公式戦29試合で5ゴール1アシストを記録していた。
その他、海外からも追悼メッセージが。メジャーリーグ・サッカー(MLS)のバンクーバー・ホワイトキャップスは「ホワイトキャップスFCは工藤壮人の逝去を悼みます」とし、「工藤選手のご家族、ご友人の皆様には、この難しい時にお悔やみを申し上げます」と追悼。バンクーバーでは公式戦19試合で3ゴール2アシストを記録していた。
早すぎる死には、多くのサッカー関係者も悲しみと共に追悼するメッセージを送っている。
