▽オーストラリア代表FWティム・ケイヒル(38)が、自身のツイッター(@Tim_Cahill)で代表引退を発表した。
▽2004年3月に代表デビューを飾ったケイヒルは、2006年のドイツ大会からこれまで4度のワールドカップ(W杯)に出場。これまで日本代表戦ではドイツW杯での2ゴールをきっかけに計5ゴールを奪ってきたことから“日本キラー”として恐れられていた。代表通算成績としては、107試合のキャップ数を誇り、サッカルーズ(オーストラリア代表の愛称)で50ゴールを記録してきた。先日まで行われていたロシアW杯グループステージ第3戦のペルー代表戦が最後の試合だった。
▽ケイヒルは17日に自身のツイッターを更新。代表引退を報告し、感謝を告げている。
「今日は僕が正式にサッカルーズでの代表キャリアを終える日となった。国の代表としてプレーすることの意味を言葉で表現することができない。代表選手として過ごしてきた間、サポートし続けてくれた方々全員に感謝を伝えたい」

世界的に有名な元ポルノ女優のミア・ハリファさん。現在は引退しており、インフルエンサーとして活躍しているが、実は大のサッカーファンとしても知られている。
現在29歳のミアさんは、スポーツ好きであり、特にサッカーがお気に入り。レバノン出身で、8歳の時に不安定な国内情勢の影響でアメリカへ家族と共に亡命していた。
世界的にも人気を博したミアさんはウェストハムのファンであることを公言。プレミアリーグのドリームチームを自身で組むなど、サッカーへの愛が非常に強いことでも知られている。
そのミアさんはYouTubeチャンネルの『AFTV』に出演。自身のお気に入りの現役選手3名を選ぶという企画に参加した。
しかし、ミアさんは現役選手ではなく、かつてマンチェスター・ユナイテッドでプレーし、イングランド代表のレジェンドでもあるデイビッド・ベッカムをまず挙げることに。「私は女性なのでベックスと言わざるを得ないわ」とコメント。理由が実に斬新で「12歳の時の私よりも高い声で彼が話すのを聞く度に、いつも笑わせてもらうわ。とても楽しいの」と、ベッカムの高い声がどうやらお気に入りらしい。
そして2人目に挙げたのがこれまた現役選手ではなく、ユベントスやレアル・マドリーで活躍し、フランス代表のレジェンドでもあるジネディーヌ・ジダンをピックアップした。
ジダンを選んだ理由については「ジネディーヌ・ジダンはサッカーを見てきた中で、最もエキサイティングだった」と、こちらは真面目にサッカー面でお気に入りの選手とのこと。ただ「私は暴力的なものが好きだけど、サッカーはバタバタしていて嫌になるわ。でもヘッドバッドは史上最高の瞬間だったわね」と、2006年のドイツW杯決勝でジダンがイタリア代表DFマルコ・マテラッツィに見舞った頭突きがお気に入りだという。
そして3人目に挙げたのが現役選手。唯一選ばれた現役選手はセルティックに所属し、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)にも出場したオーストラリア代表MFアーロン・モーイだ。
日本代表FW前田大然、MF旗手怜央、FW古橋亨梧、MF井手口陽介とチームメイトとして今シーズンプレー。かつてはウェスタン・シドニー・ワンダラーズでMF小野伸二(北海道コンサドーレ札幌)共プレーしたことがある。
モーイを選んだ理由については、「フットボール界のカワイ・レナードのようなものね」と語り、NBAのロサンゼルス・クリッパーズに所属するバスケットボールプレーヤーに例え、「モーイはレナードのように行動する。カメラは苦手だし、ちょっとおっちょこちょいだけど、それを感じさせないわ」と語り、「わからないけど、彼を思い出すの。カワイ・レナードは良い男よ」と、またしても独特な理由で選出していた。

ミランのフランス代表FWオリヴィエ・ジルーが、ユニフォーム交換を拒否されたとのオーストラリア代表FWジェイソン・カミングスの主張に対して、鮮やかなリアクションを見せた。
カミングスは先日、オーストラリア『Channel 10』の番組『The Project』でカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)期間中のエピソードを提供。その際にフランスとのグループステージ初戦(1-4で敗戦)の試合後にFWキリアン・ムバッペとジルーにユニフォーム交換を求めたものの、拒否されたことを暴露していた。
カミングスはその際の両選手とのやり取りを以下のように説明していた。
「フランス戦の後、僕は実際にムバッペのユニフォームを獲得しようと試みたんだ。ジルーのことは忘れて、トップボーイのムバッペを選んだ。そして、彼はドレッシングルームに訪ねてくるように伝えてきたんだ」
「そして、僕はドレッシングルームに行って、フランスのキットマンがそこにいたから、僕は彼に自分のユニフォームを預けたんだ。だけど、10分後に彼は僕のユニフォームを持って出てきて、『いや、絶対にダメ。ムバッペは交換を望んでいない』と言われてしまった」
「それで僕はドレッシングルームに戻ったときにジルーが歩いているのを見つけて、いつものようにハンサムな姿で歩いていたから、彼に頼んだんだ。『僕は君の大ファンなんだ』、『君のユニフォームをもらえないか?』ってね」
「だけど、彼は英語をまったく話せないかのようなふりをして、僕の横を通り過ぎした! 彼は(イングランドの)プレミアリーグに10年間在籍していた! だけど、僕の横を通り過ぎた!」
カミングス自身は両選手への批判というよりも、自虐エピソード的な意味合いで明かした感が強かったものの、冷たい対応にも映ったため、このエピソードはSNS上で拡散。そして、ジルー本人にも伝わることになった。
すると、ジルーは自身の公式ツイッターを通じて、カミングスの同僚MFジャクソン・アーバインのユニフォームを写した画像と共に「やあ、ジャクソン・アーバイン。僕の英語の仲間はどうかな?」とのコメントを笑いの絵文字と共に投稿。
カミングスの呼びかけに気付かなかった理由に関しての説明はなかったものの、アーバインと先にユニフォーム交換を行ったことでユニフォームをあげることができなかったことを示唆した。
また、この投稿に対してアーバインは「なんという男(笑)。僕らが完璧な英語でヘアケアのルーティーンを交換したことを認めるよ」と、英語を話せないふりをしたとのカミングスの主張をこちらも陽気に否定している。
ちなみに、ムバッペとジルーのユニフォーム交換はならずも、カミングスは最終的にDFジュール・クンデとユニフォームを獲得している。

オーストラリアサッカー連盟(FFA)は12日、2030年か2034年のFIFAワールドカップ(W杯)開催地に立候補する計画を立てていることを明かした。『AFP通信』が伝えている。
オーストラリアは2022年のW杯招致に向けて、4500万オーストラリアドル(約36億6000万円)を投じたが、最終投票の結果、カタールに僅差で敗れていた。
しかし、2023年女子W杯をニュージーランドと共催し、2032年にブリスベンで夏季オリンピックの開催が決定したことを受け、2030年か2034年のW杯開催地に再び立候補することを決断した。
FFAで最高経営責任者(CEO)を務めるジェームズ・ジョンソン氏は、2015年に女子W杯を開催し、2026年にアメリカとメキシコとの共催でW杯を開催するカナダ、2014年にW杯を開催し、2016年にリオデジャネイロ五輪を開催したブラジルを引き合いに出し、2030年か2034年のタイミングでW杯を開催することが最適なものであると主張している。
「我々は2023年に素晴らしい大会(女子W杯)を主催する」
「ゲームのためにレガシーを引き継いでいくつもりだが、それをもっと有効に活用しなければならないし、それをうまく進めていくことで、より多くのFIFA大会に向けての足がかりにできるかもしれない」
「そして、それには流れがある。2015年に女子ワールドカップを開催したカナダはその11年後にアメリカ(とメキシコ)と共に男子ワールドカップを開催する予定だ。ブラジルは2014年にワールドカップを開催し、2016年にオリンピックを開催した」
なお、ジョンソン氏は2022年W杯が同じアジアサッカー連盟(AFC)に属するカタールで開催され、2026年大会がアメリカ、カナダ、メキシコの共催となることから、2030年大会はヨーロッパか南米での開催を予想。そのため、2034年大会の開催がより現実的であると考えているようだ。

カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)アジア最終予選のグループB第6節、中国代表vsオーストラリア代表が16日に行われ、1-1のドローに終わった。
直近2戦未勝利で2位に位置するオーストラリア(勝ち点10)が、5位の中国(勝ち点4)と対峙したUAE開催の一戦。
3試合ぶりの勝利で2位死守を目指すオーストラリアは0-0のドローに終わったサウジアラビア代表戦から先発2人を変更。サウターとメイビルに代えてデゲネクと、ファジアーノ岡山に所属するミッチェル・デュークを起用した。
開始直後にアランに決定機を許したオーストラリアだが、守護神ライアンの好守で凌ぐと、ここからボールの主導権を握って押し込む展開に持ち込む。だが、中央を固めながら強度が高い守備を見せるホームチームを前になかなか崩しの形を見いだせない。
それでも、相手の狙いとするカウンターを凌ぎつつ焦れずに攻め続けるアウェイチームは38分、相手陣内右サイドで得たスローインの流れからフルスティッチの縦パスに抜け出したボイルが正確なクロスを供給。これをゴール前で競り勝ったデュークが打点の高いヘディングで合わせ、待望の先制点を奪った。
これで余裕が出てきたオーストラリアは43分にフルスティッチの見事な左足アウトを使ったラストパスに抜け出したレッキーがゴール左でGKと一対一の絶好機を迎えるが、ここはGKにうまく間合いを潰されて決め切れない。さらに、前半アディショナルタイムにも波状攻撃からベヒッチにシュートチャンスも、右足のシュートはわずかに枠の左へ外れた。
結局、1点リードで試合を折り返したオーストラリアは後半も危なげなく試合を進めていく。だが、前半同様になかなか決定機を作れず、最少得点差の状況が続くと、思わぬ形から同点に追いつかれる。
70分、中国のFKの場面でボックス内で相手と競ったジェッゴが広げた腕にボールが接触。オンフィールドレビューの結果、このプレーがハンドと判定されて中国にPKが与えられる。これをウー・レイにきっちり決められた。
失点直後にアロイージオに際どいミドルシュートを打たれるなど、一転して難しい状況を強いられたオーストラリアは、デュークやレッキー、フルスティッチら前線の選手を下げてメイビルやマクラーレン、マクグリーといった選手を投入。異なるアプローチで勝ち越しゴールを目指す。
だが、後半に入って消耗が激しいアウェイチームは試合終盤に入ってなかなかパワーを出せず、2失点目を防ぐので精いっぱいの苦しい状況のままタイムアップを迎えることになった。
この結果、中国相手に勝ち切れずに2戦連続ドローとなったオーストラリアは、勝ち点1差の日本代表の結果次第で3位転落の可能性が出てきた。
