ダービー・カウンティのコーチ兼任選手である元イングランド代表FWウェイン・ルーニーが古巣マンチェスター・ユナイテッドで共闘した元韓国代表MFのパク・チソン氏の重要性と偉大さを主張した。イギリス『デイリー・メール』が報じている。
京都パープルサンガ(現・京都サンガFC)でもプレーしたパク・チソン氏は2005年夏にサー・アレックス・ファーガソン元監督の目に止まり、オランダの強豪PSVからユナイテッドに移籍。QPR移籍を果たすまで実に7シーズンにわたり、“レッド・デビルズ”の一員として働き、チャンピオンズリーグ(CL)制覇や4度のプレミアリーグ優勝を経験した。
そんなパク・チソン氏と7シーズンにわたり、ユナイテッドのために共闘したルーニー。イギリス『タイムズ』で連載するコラムのなかで、圧倒的な運動量と献身性で一世を風靡した元韓国代表MFについて、ポルトガル代表FWクリスティアーノ・ロナウド(現ユベントス)の名を挙げ、次のように称賛した。
「12歳ぐらいの子供にクリスティアーノ・ロナウドを尋ねたら、すぐに『そうさ。彼はマンチェスター・ユナイテッドのブリリアントな選手だった』と言うだろうが、パク・チソンを尋ねたら、誰のことかわからないかもしれない。そんなのクレイジーだ」
「でも、パクと一緒にプレーした選手なら誰もが僕らの成功に重要な役割を担う選手だったと認識している。それはパクがチームにもたらしたものであり、僕自身もチームとしての話がしたい。スポーツだと、スターじゃない選手が最も重要な存在なのさ」

また、ルーニーはパク・チソン氏の活躍が強く脳裏に焼きつく試合として、2009-10シーズンに行われたCL決勝トーナメント1回戦のミラン戦を挙げ、ファーガソン氏からの指令を完遂してみせた“遂行力”に驚いた当時を振り返っている。

31日、東京オリンピックの男子サッカーの準々決勝4試合が行われる。U-24日本代表がU-24ニュージーランド代表との一戦に臨む中、ライバルでもあるU-24韓国代表はU-24メキシコ代表との戦いを迎える。
そんな中、韓国代表のFWチョン・ソンウォン(24)のイケメンぶりにも大きな注目が集まっている。
大邱FCに所属するチョン・ソンウォンは今シーズンのKリーグ1で主に右サイドで起用され、13試合1ゴールをマーク。A代表経験はないものの、AFC U-23選手権タイ2020にも選出。4試合に出場しU-23韓国代表の優勝にも貢献している。
選手としても確かな実力を持つチョン・ソンウォンだが、最大の注目はそのルックス。K-POPのアイドルを彷彿とさせるような端正な顔立ちにお洒落な髪型で絶大な人気を誇り、自身のインスタグラムでは60万人を超えるフォロワーを抱えている。その人気もあり大邱広域市広報大使まで務めている。
韓国メディアによると、チョン・ソンウォンは「大邱のアイドル」と呼ばれ、自身が幼稚園児の頃に2002年の日韓ワールドカップでの元韓国代表MFパク・チソン氏がポルトガル代表戦で決めたゴールを観て、サッカー選手を志すようになったという。
25日に行われたグループステージのU-24ルーマニア代表戦で相手選手と衝突。治療しながらもピッチに戻った際にはその情熱と美貌まで大きな話題になったとのことだ。
チョン・ソンウォンはオリンピックでここまで2試合に出場しているが、そのルックスは日本でも注目を集めており、韓国の音楽グループ「BTS(防弾少年団)のメンバーにいそう」「神は二物を与えたみたい」「優勝」といったコメントが寄せられている。
U-24メキシコ代表戦では、韓国の結果だけでなくチョン・ソンウォンのルックスにも注目だ。

ナイキは3日、今夏オーストラリアとニュージーランドで開催される女子ワールドカップ(W杯)に向けたユニフォームを発表した。
なでしこジャパンも出場する今年の女子W杯。9都市10のスタジアムで開催される。
ナイキは本大会に出場する国のユニフォームを発表。パワフルな女子サッカー選手の独自のニーズに合わせて調整され、女性特有の動きに対応した新しいフィットと素材のイノベーションを採用しているという。
出場32カ国中13カ国のユニフォームサプライヤーであるナイキだが、今回は特に女子選手の意見をもとにデザインや開発を行ったという。
その中で、大きな変化の1つはイングランド女子代表。これまでは上下白がベースとなっていたが、W杯では青のパンツを履くことになるという。
その理由は、女子選手が訴える生理の問題の懸念だ。イングランドのクラブでもマンチェスター・シティやWBA、スウォンジー・シティの女子チームの選手が、生理中に白いパンツを履くことを懸念していたとのこと。その結果、クラブとサプライヤーが対応して白以外のパンツに変更していた。
ナイキは女子選手のそうした意見を受けて、イングランドのパンツを白から青に変更。13カ国のホームとアウェイユニフォーム26着のうち、白のパンツはブラジル女子代表のアウェイのみという状況になった。
ナイキの対応には選手たちも感謝を示しているとのこと。また、ナイキの最新のスポーツブラも提供され、より快適にプレーできるようになるようだ。

アジアサッカー連盟(AFC)は7日、5月11日に行われるアジアカップの組み合わせ抽選会に向けたポット分けを発表した。
今年6月に中国で開催予定だったアジアカップ2023。しかし、新型コロナウイルス(COVID-19)の感染拡大の影響もあり、2022年に開催断念が決定。新たな開催地がカタールに決まっていた。
その結果、開催時期が半年後ろ倒しとなり、2024年1月12日に開幕することが決定。本大会の組み合わせ抽選は5月に行われる中、そのポット分けが決まった。
日本はポット1に入り、開催国でありディフェンディングチャンピオンであるカタールの他、イラン、韓国、オーストラリア、サウジアラビアとグループステージで当たることは無くなった。
ポット2にはイラク、UAE、オマーン、ウズベキスタン、中国、ヨルダンと実力国が入ることとなっている。
出場全24カ国はグループAからFまで4カ国ずつ振り分けられ、上位2カ国と3位の中の上位4カ国がラウンド16に進出する。

韓国サッカー協会(KFA)は30日、ニューカッスルに所属するMFキ・ソンヨン(30)が韓国代表を引退することを発表した。
全世代別の代表に選出され、FCソウル在籍時の2008年6月に19歳で韓国代表デビューを飾ったキ・ソンヨン。すぐさまレギュラーに定着し、キック力とパスセンスを武器に長きにわたって韓国を支えてきた。ワールドカップ(W杯)には、2010年大会から3大会連続出場。2012年に行われたロンドン五輪では、U-23韓国代表の主役として銅メダルを獲得した。2015年からキャプテンとしてチームをけん引。現在、開催中のAFCアジアカップ2019にも参戦していたが、グループE第1戦のフィリピン代表戦で右ハムストリングを痛め、グループステージ終了後に代表を離脱していた。代表キャリアでは、通算110試合10得点を記録した。
KFAによると、キ・ソンヨンは30日にKFAに「2019年のAFCアジアカップを最後に代表という大きな名誉と重大な責任を終えようと思う」と書信を送付。代表引退を決断したキ・ソンヨンは、以下のようにコメントしている。
「サッカー人生の中で、代表は何よりも大切だった。これまで多くの愛と声援を送ってくれたファンの皆さんに深く感謝を申し上げたい」
「アジアカップではファンの期待に応えられず、代表は困難な時期を迎えている。ただ、パウロ・ベント監督の指導の下、仲間たちと後輩が力を合わせて乗り越えていくと思っている」
