メッシとは若い頃からアルゼンチン代表で一緒にプレーしたアグエロ氏。2008年の北京オリンピックで金メダルを獲得し、その後も多くの試合で前線でコンビを組み、プライベートでも親友として仲が良いことで知られている。

アグエロ氏は不整脈の影響で2021年に現役を引退したものの、2022年にアルゼンチン代表がカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)優勝を果たした際には、選手以上に喜ぶ姿も話題に。さらにメッシがインテル・マイアミへと加入すると、アグエロ氏もそのデビュー戦を現地で観戦。メッシのゴールが決まった際には喜びを爆発させていた。

メッシの加入で勢いづいたインテル・マイアミは、アメリカのメジャーリーグ・サッカー(MLS)とメキシコのリーガMXのクラブが参加するリーグスカップで決勝へと進出。現地時間19日にナッシュビルSCとの大一番に臨むと、メッシが先制点をマーク。チームは同点に追いつかれたもののPK戦の末にクラブ史上初のタイトルを獲得していた。
