24・28日のウルグアイ・コロンビア2連戦(国立・ヨドコウ)に挑む第2次森保ジャパンのメンバー発表が15日と見られる中、日本代表スタッフ陣の選考作業も大詰めになりつつある。森保一監督や名波浩・前田遼一新コーチが特にディスカッションしているのが、最前線を担うFWをどうするかだろう。ご存じの通り、2022年カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)では、前田大然(セルティック)がドイツ・スペイン・クロアチアの3試合で先発。途中から浅野拓磨(ボーフム)がジョーカー的に出てきて、フィニッシャーの重責を担うパターンで、8強にあと一歩まで迫った。そのベースを今回の2連戦でも継続するのか、新たな軸を据えるのかは思案のしどころだ。というのも、前田と浅野は所属クラブで1トップを担っていないからだ。前田は左FW、浅野は右FWが主戦場で、ここ数カ月のブランクがある点はやや不安が付きまとう。コスタリカ戦に先発した上田綺世(セルクル・ブルージュ)にしても、クラブでは左シャドウに入っている。「自分が1トップをできていないのは、体の強さだったり、求められることの相違だったりが理由。ジレンマはあります」と本人は偽らざる胸中を口にした。しかしながら、彼は1トップのケビン・デンキーと近い距離感を保ちながら、敵の背後に抜け出したり、こぼれ球に詰めたり、リスタートから打点の高いヘッドをお見舞いしたりとゴールにより近いエリアでプレー。得点感覚を研ぎ澄ませている。ベルギー挑戦1年目で早くも13ゴールをゲット。得点王の可能性も出てきている。それも含めて、他のFWよりアドバンテージがあるのは確か。今後は上田綺世が代表FW陣の軸を担っていく可能性も大いにありそうだ。「やっぱりFWは点を取ることで一番信頼されると僕は思っている。自分の目指すところは、守備もしながら走って、しっかり攻守において貢献できる選手。環境が変わっても、チームメートが変わっても、ピッチが変わっても点を取れるクオリティを求めていきたい」こう語り、目の色を変えてゴールに突き進む今の彼は実に頼もしい。そうやって貪欲に高みを目指す原動力の1つが、W杯での不完全燃焼感だろう。昨夏にあえてリスクを冒して鹿島からセルクル・ブルージュへ赴き、前半戦だけで7ゴールを叩き出して26人枠を射止めたものの、結果的には45分間ピッチに立っただけで終わってしまった。しかも、コスタリカ戦での上田は、本来の能力とはかけ離れたパフォーマンスしか発揮できなかった。そんな自分自身の現在地をしっかりと認め、再出発したことは大きな意味を持つ。さらなる飛躍への意識も一段と高まったに違いない。「コスタリカ戦であれくらいしかできなかった自分がドイツ、スペイン戦に出ていたら、一体、何ができたんだろうという考え方もあります。そういう中、大舞台で違いを出せる同世代の薫(三笘=ブライトン)君とか律(堂安=フライブルク)、碧(田中=デュッセルドルフ)に刺激を受けました。彼らは僕よりも早く海外に出て、もがいて、今の立場を築いた。そこには物凄くリスペクトしています。自分自身も今いるセルクル・ブルージュで常に自分自身のアップデートを向き合っていかなければいけないと思っています」と彼は目を輝かせる。以前から向上心の強い選手ではあったが、欧州に身を投じ、W杯という世界中の人々が注目する大舞台を経験して、上田綺世のギラギラ感は以前とは比べ物にならないほど強くなった。本人は「そうですかね。僕、ギラギラしてます?」と自問自答していたが、成功への野心を抱く各国の若手がひしめくこの国にいれば、彼自身も良い意味で「俺が俺が」とエゴを出すようになって当然。前向きな変化は日本代表にもプラス効果をもたらすはずだ。日本にも町野修斗(湘南ベルマーレ)や小川航基(横浜FC)などライバルもいるが、今の上田綺世なら誰にも負けない存在感を示せるだろう。仮にこの夏、欧州5大リーグへのステップアップを果たし、新天地で念願の1トップを射止めるようなことがあれば、代表における彼の位置づけはまずまず重要になってくる。これまでの日本人FWを見ても、欧州5大リーグで最前線で結果を出したのは、フランクフルト時代の高原直泰(沖縄SV代表兼選手)、マインツ時代の岡崎慎司(シント=トロイデン)くらい。大迫勇也(ヴィッセル神戸)でさえも、ケルンやブレーメンではトップ下やボランチで使われたことがあった。技術レベルが高く、起用で献身的な日本人FWはユーティリティ要員と位置づけられることが多いのだ。非凡なポテンシャルを秘めた上田にはそのハードルを乗り越え、何としても絶対的FWに君臨してもらいたい。「僕はアジア人としての壁を超えたい。アジア人、日本人という枠で見られたくない」と本人も強調していたが、プレミアリーグで昨季得点王に輝いたソン・フンミン(トッテナム)のような最高峰レベルを貪欲に目指し続け、日本代表を未知なる領域へとけん引してほしいものである。 <hr>【文・元川悦子】<br/><div id="cws_ad">長野県松本市生まれ。千葉大学卒業後、夕刊紙記者などを経て、94年からフリーのサッカーライターとなる。Jリーグ、日本代表、海外まで幅広くフォローし、日本代表は特に精力的な取材を行い、アウェイでもほぼ毎試合足を運んでいる。積極的な選手とのコミュニケーションを活かして、選手の生の声を伝える。</div> <span class="paragraph-title">【動画】好調を維持し続ける上田綺世、圧巻のトラップから2ゴール!</span> <span data-other-div="movie"></span> <script>var video_id ="r-za29dV7o0";var video_start = 0;</script><div style="text-align:center;"><div id="player"></div></div><script src="https://web.ultra-soccer.jp/js/youtube_autoplay.js"></script> 2023.03.06 22:00 Mon
