ベルギー代表歴代最多出場記録の37歳DFヴェルトンゲンが今季限りで現役引退…「長年自分を支えてくれたすべての人に心から感謝」

アンデルレヒトの元ベルギー代表DFヤン・ヴェルトンゲン(37)が今シーズン限りでの現役引退を決断した。ヴェルトンゲンは25日、アンデルレヒトの公式サイトを通じてスパイクを脱ぐ決断を下したことを明かした。「ここ数週間で、これが最後の試合になるだろうということがはっきりしてきたんだ。決して簡単な決断ではなかったけど、正しい決断だ。トレーニングや試合に向けて体力を整え、自分がなりたい選手として自分を見せることがますます難しくなっていることに気づいた。ファンや仲間の選手だけでなく、自分自身に対してもだ。だからこそ、今シーズンを最後に引退するんだ」「残り11試合で全力を尽くし、ファンやチームメイトと素晴らしい瞬間をもう少し経験できればと思っているよ。自分が経験できたこと、達成できたことをとても誇りに思っている。また、長年自分を支えてくれたすべての人に心から感謝したいと思う」ベールスホットのユース育ちのヴェルトンゲンは、そのままアヤックスのアカデミーに入団。2006年にファーストチームデビューを飾り、RKCヴァールヴァイクでの武者修行も経験。アヤックスでは公式戦220試合に出場し28ゴール12アシストを記録。チームの主軸としてプレーすると、2012年7月にトッテナム・ホットスパーへ完全移籍。スパーズではセンターバックと左サイドバックを主戦場に主軸を担うと、公式戦315試合で14ゴール8アシストを記録。マウリシオ・ポチェッティーノ監督の下で、近年の黄金期を過ごしたチームをディフェンスリーダーとして支えた。その後、2020年8月にベンフィカへと完全移籍し、2022年9月には母国の名門アンデルレヒトへ活躍の場を移した。今シーズンここまではケガの影響などもあって公式戦5試合の出場にとどまっていた。ベルギー代表としても、左サイドバックや3バックの一角でプレーし、歴代最多の157試合に出場し10ゴールを記録した。 2025.03.25 22:56 Tue
