リバプールのエジプト代表FWモハメド・サラーが一部のイスラム教徒の怒りを買っているようだ。イギリス『デイリー・メール』が伝えている。12月25日のクリスマス。多くのサッカー選手も自宅にツリーを飾り、家族たちと一緒に楽しんだ様子をSNSにアップ。サラーもその1人で、妻のマギさんと2人の娘マッカちゃんとカヤンちゃんとともに、家族4人でクリスマスを満喫する姿を披露していた。
しかし、この微笑ましいはずの投稿が怒りを買っているという。それはイスラム教徒からのもの。『デイリー・メール』によると、ほとんどはイングランドではなく他国のファンから寄せられているもので、クリスマスに参加する人もいるものの、イスラム教徒はクリスマスを祝わない伝統を持っているからだという。
実際、サラーの投稿には「あなたは私を失望させた。このツイートを削除しないのであれば、フォローを外さなければならないだろう」、「クリスマスをキリスト教徒と一緒に祝っているから、フォローを外しリバプールの応援もやめよう」、「素晴らしい選手だと思うし、いつも私に刺激を与えてくれた。しかし、このツイートの後、私はもうあなたを私のロールモデルとして見ることはできない」といったコメントが散見される。
なお、サラーのクリスマスの投稿でこうしたコメントが寄せられるのは毎年のこと。ただ、サラーのインスタグラムのフォロワー数は5500万人を超えており、人口のおよそ9割がイスラム教徒というエジプトで抜群の人気を誇る。そのため、反響の大きさは年々大きくなっているのかもしれない。
