歴史に残る激戦となったアルゼンチン代表とフランス代表によるカタール・ワールドカップ決勝。フランスが驚異的な追い上げを見せた裏に、エースのピッチ外での活躍があったようだ。

PK戦決着という劇的な幕切れとなった一戦。フランス有利と見られていた中で、アルゼンチンがリオネル・メッシのPKなどで前半を2点リードで折り返す予想外の展開に。

このままアルゼンチンが逃げ切るかに思われたが、後半からフランスは目の色を変えて反撃。80分にキリアン・ムバッペのPKでようやく1点を返すと、その1分後に再びムバッペがネットを揺らし同点。試合は延長戦へ突入した。

延長戦ではメッシとムバッペの両エースが得点を奪い合い、決着はPK戦に委ねらることに。フランスはムバッペのハットトリックで2度追いつく粘り強さを見せたが、最後に栄冠を手にしたのはアルゼンチンだった。

2連覇は叶わなかったフランスだが、2点ビハインドから追いつき、最後まで食らいついた執念には称賛が巻き起こり、この試合を奇跡の一戦たらしめるものとした。

1位に輝いたのは、アストン・ビラでプレーするスイス女子代表のアリーシャ・レーマン。世界一セクシーなアスリートとしても知られ、インスタグラムのフォロワーは1340万人。元プロテニスプレーヤーのロジャー・フェデラーを超え、インスタグラムで最も人気のあるスイス人アスリートとなっている。アストン・ビラでは2シーズンでFA女子スーパーリーグ(FAWSL)で43試合に出場し7ゴール。スイス代表としても38キャップを記録している。 マテラッツィ、ジダンとの“頭突き事件”を引き起こした侮辱発言の真相を明かす
