カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)でクロアチア代表の一員としてプレーするモドリッチ。37歳で迎えた今大会は、集大成の大会になると見られている。

そのモドリッチは、グループステージから全5試合に出場し躍進するクロアチア代表を牽引。

ラウンド16では日本代表、準々決勝ではブラジル代表をそれぞれPK戦で下し、2大会連続で準決勝に進んだクロアチア。4年前のロシアW杯ではチームを決勝へと導くも、フランス代表の前に敗戦。準優勝に終わり涙を飲んでいたが、今回もあと2つに迫っている。

そのモドリッチはインスタグラムを更新し「諦めちゃいけない」と投稿。ブラジル戦の勝利を喜んだが、その中で子供たちと撮った写真が話題となっている。

モドリッチには長男イバンくん、長女エマちゃん、そして次女ソフィアちゃんと3人の子供がいるが、それぞれがクロアチアのユニフォームを見に纏い、激闘のピッチに足を踏み入れた。
