しかし、今シーズンはプレシーズンの合流に遅れた他、エリク・テン・ハグ監督からも信頼を受けておらず出番が限られている状況。さらに、試合中にベンチを後にするなどの問題行動も目立っている。
そんな中、本大会前にイギリスのテレビ『TalkTV』でピアース・モーガン氏のインタビューを受け、クラブ批判や監督批判を行い大きな騒動に。W杯を前に周囲が騒がしくなっている。
そのC・ロナウドだが、インタビューではW杯についても言及。楽しみであり期待もしているとした。
「タフになるだろう。とても難しい。でも、全てが可能だ。もちろん、僕たちは争っていくよ」
また、優勝したら引退するのか?という質問に「はい。引退する。100%だ」とコメント。「チャンスはある」と、初の戴冠に意欲を示した。
さらに引退のプランについては「あと、2、3年はプレーしたいね。だから、最長でも、2、3年だろう。40歳で終わりたい」とコメント。「40歳は良い年齢だと思う。でも、分からない。未来はわからない」と、どうなるかは不明だとした。
ただ、「人生のために何かを計画することもある。何度も言っているけど、人生はダイナミックで、何が起こるかは分からない」とコメント。40歳までプレーするか、それともすぐに辞めるのかは誰にもわからないとした。

21世紀の出場試合数ランキング発表! 首位は1145試合のC・ロナウド、トップ10に日本人選手がランクイン

C・ロナウドが悔しさ露わで腕章投げ捨て蹴り飛ばし…3月にも同様の行い
