イギリス『サンデー・タイムズ』の英国長者番付「サンデー・タイムズ・リッチ・リスト」にチャーリー・モーガンの名が載った。

聞き覚えのない名前だが、この人物はサッカー界で一瞬大きな注目を集めたことがある。

2013年のキャピタル・ワン・カップ準決勝、チェルシーvsスウォンジー・シティの戦いは1stレグをスウォンジーが2-0で勝利すると、2ndレグでもゴールを許さず、0-0のまま試合終盤を迎えていた。

そして78分、ゴールラインを割ったボールを素早く戻さなかったボールボーイとチェルシーのMFエデン・アザール(現レアル・マドリー)が揉みあいに。その際、ボールに覆いかぶさったボールボーイを蹴った格好となったアザールが一発退場となり、3試合の出場停止となっていた。

この時のボールボーイがモーガンだ。スウォンジーのクラブ幹部の息子でもあった。

当時17歳だったモーガンだが、イギリス『サン』によると今はウォッカの会社を経営しており、4000万ポンド(約65億円)の資産を持つ大富豪だという。

モーガンは2016年に学校の友人と「オー・ウォッカ」という会社を設立。会社の商品は元ブラジル代表のロナウジーニョ氏やボクシングのフロイド・メイウェザーなど、そうそうたる顔ぶれに愛用されているそうだ。

なお、『サン』はアザールの推定純資産を算出。約8500万ポンド(約137億円)だとし、モーガンとアザールが再び争う日もそう遠くはないかもしれないと冗談交じりに締めくくっている。
