ヴェンゲル氏がスイス代表監督候補に浮上、初の代表監督に?

長らくアーセナルで指揮を執ったアーセン・ヴェンゲル氏に現場復帰の可能性が浮上した。イギリス『デイリー・メール』が報じた。

2017-18シーズンを最後に、アーセナルの監督を退任したヴェンゲル氏。その後はどのチームでも指導せず、解説の仕事などを行っている。

監督業を引退したわけではないヴェンゲル氏。すると、スイス代表監督の候補の1人に挙がっているとスイス『Blick』が伝えた。

現在はFIFAの育成部門のチームでもあるヴェンゲル氏。スイス代表監督に就任した場合は、短期的に引き継ぐことになると見られている。

スイス代表を7年間指揮したウラジミール・ペトコビッチ監督は、ユーロ2020を最後に退任。ボルドーの監督に就任したため、後任を探す必要があった。

ヴェンゲル氏は2022年のカタール・ワールドカップに向けた欧州予選を指揮するとのこと。3月のプレーオフまでになると見られている。

ヴェンゲル氏はナンシー、モナコ、名古屋グランパス、アーセナルで監督を務め、代表チームからのオファーはこれまで何度も断りを入れていた。果たしてスイス代表の指揮を執るのか、注目が集まる。

改めて偉業だったアーセナルのプレミア無敗優勝、“インビンシブルズ”の強みとは

伊東純也のメンバー外で思い出したこと/六川亨の日本サッカー見聞録

3月14日、14時からの代表メンバー発表ということで、誰もが気になったのが背番号14の去就だろう。結論から先に言うと、森保一監督は「ひとことで言うと、彼を守るために招集しなかったという判断を、私自身がさせていただいた」と切り出した。スタッド・ランスでは活躍しているため「彼のパフォーマンスと状況を踏まえたうえで招集は可能だと思っているし、招集したいと思っていた」ものの、日本では性加害疑惑で訴えられているため、「招集した場合に日本で彼を取り巻く環境がどういうものになるかと想像したときに、彼が落ち着いて生活できる、落ち着いてプレーできる環境にはならないことを私自身が想像している。彼が一番大切している家族、大切にしている方々への影響を考えたときに招集しない方がいまはいいのかなと思って判断した」と心情を吐露した。もしも伊東純也が北朝鮮戦のために来日したら、テレビはもちろん新聞、雑誌などあらゆるメディアが空港や練習会場に押し寄せ、伊東のコメントを取ろうと躍起になるはずだ。しかしサッカーで注目されるならともかく、サッカー以外でのコメントは伊東も出しようがないだろう。ここは森保監督の判断を尊重したい。今回の森保監督の“配慮”で思い出したのが、98年フランスW杯前の岡田武史監督だった。「ジョホールバルの奇跡」で日本を初のW杯へ導いた岡田監督。当時は多くのメディアが岡田監督の自宅に押しかけ、コメントを取ろうと必死になった。いわゆる「岡ちゃんフィーバー(もはや死語か)」である。見知らぬ自称“友人”がたくさんできて、メディアでコメントを発していた。残念ながらフランスW杯は3連敗に終わり、中山雅史が1ゴールを決めるのがやっとだった。そして、この時の「岡ちゃんフィーバー」を見たJFAの幹部会は、次の日本代表監督に日本人ではなく外国人監督を招聘することを決断した。自国開催のW杯で、過去の例からホストカントリーは最低限グループリーグを突破しなければならない(2010年の南アは初のグループリーグ敗退)。しかし、万が一グループリーグで敗退したら、大会前の盛り上がりから一転、監督はサッカーファン・サポーターだけでなく国民からも厳しい批判を受ける可能性が高い。場合によっては日本で二度と監督はできなくなるかもしれない。そうした危惧を抱きつつ、外国人監督だったらグループリーグで敗退しても自国へ戻れば監督業を続けられるだろう。そうした思惑もあり、Jリーグで監督経験のあるアーセン・ヴェンゲル氏にオファーを出し、彼が紹介してくれたフィリップ・トルシエ監督と契約した。結果はご存知の通りW杯はグループリーグを突破したし、99年のワールドユース(現U-20W杯)では準優勝という好成績を収めた。その一方で、2014年のブラジルW杯後に日本代表の監督に就任したハビエル・アギーレ氏は、サラゴサ時代に八百長疑惑があったと報道されたことで、翌年2月に「契約解除」という異例のケースで日本を去った。まだ裁判で有罪か無罪か確定していないにもかかわらず、JFAとしては「八百長」という言葉に敏感に反応したのだろう。いささか潔癖症かもしれないが、外国人監督なら日本を去ってもヨーロッパや中南米で監督業を続けられるだろうという目論見があったとしても不思議ではない。伊東の場合は戦力として欠かせないし、日本人のため今後もフォローは必要になるが、疑惑が晴れるまで国内の試合に招集するのは森保監督も躊躇うだろう。しかし、今年の秋からは(2次予選を突破したら)最終予選が始まり、北中米W杯は2年後に迫っている。どこかのタイミングで、誰かが伊東の代表復帰を決断しなければ、日本サッカーにとって大きな損失である。森保監督にその責を担わせるのではなく、ここは宮本恒靖JFA会長が理事会の総意として伊東の代表復帰を後押しして欲しい。 2024.03.15 08:30 Fri

偉大なるジルー、その分岐点は若き日のフランス代表デビュー戦…惚れ込んだヴェンゲル氏「夢中になってしまった」

フランス代表歴代最多得点者のFWオリヴィエ・ジルー(37)。その選手キャリアにおける分岐点は、自身のA代表デビュー戦を観戦したアーセン・ヴェンゲル氏との出会いだった。今季でミランを退団、フランス代表からもユーロ2024を最後に引退、MLSはロサンゼルスFCへの移籍を持って、欧州で見納めとなるであろう37歳ジルー。モンペリエ時代の11-12シーズンにリーグ・アン優勝&得点王。翌季から5年半アーセナルに在籍し通算105得点。チェルシー時代は控えを抜け出せずも、34歳で加入したミランがクラブキャリアのハイライトか。1年目でスクデット奪還に大貢献、得点数だけでは語れない技量・存在感で3年間チームを引っ張り、その威圧感は老練なカルチョのDFを苦しめた。また、フランス代表では3度のW杯出場に2018年ロシア大会優勝、そして同国代表歴代最多の57得点。ティエリ・アンリ氏の得点記録を抜くのがジルーになるなど、一体誰が予想しただろうか。まさに、年齢を重ねるごとに輝きを増していったストライカーだ。フランス『Canal+』は、そんなジルーの半生を追いかけたドキュメンタリー番組を制作し、選手キャリアの分岐点として、当時アーセナル指揮官だったヴェンゲル氏の目に留まった“2011年11月11日”をピックアップ…ヴェンゲル氏自ら証言する。「初めてオリヴィエを観た日のことをよく覚えている。当時彼はモンペリエの選手で、すでにそれなりの成績を収めていたが、そのプレーをこの目で確認し、『ああ、この男はフットボールを完全に理解している』と確信した。私は彼に夢中になってしまった(笑)」 “2011年11月11日”は、ジルーがフランス代表初キャップを飾ったアメリカ代表戦。スタッド・ド・フランスで観戦してジルーに惚れ込んだヴェンゲル氏は自らジルーへ接触。2012年夏のアーセナル加入に漕ぎ着けた。しかし、代理人のミシェル・マヌエロ氏は当時、ジルーに「アーセナルなんか行くべきじゃない」とアドバイスしたと言う。「私は彼に言った。『アーセナルはダメだ。ロビン・ファン・ペルシがいるんだぞ。ピッチ脇で味方のゴールに拍手する時間を過ごすことになるぞ』ってね。どう考えてもオリヴィエにストライカー以外はできないし、不可能なミッションに挑もうとしているように思えたんだ」「彼は『わかった、他のクラブも考えてみよう』と言ったんだ。ところが1カ月半後、突然『やっぱりアーセナルへ行く』ってね(笑)」ジルーがアーセナル行きを決めると、ほどなくしてマヌエロ氏の懸念だったファン・ペルシ氏がマンチェスター・ユナイテッドへの移籍が決定。結果的に、ジルーは加入後すぐにセンターフォワードの定位置に収まった格好だ。フランス代表デビュー戦にて、ヴェンゲル氏に認められたところから階段を駆け上がっていったジルー。13年もの歳月が経ち、男はフランス代表で通算131キャップ、通算57得点で歴代最多得点者となっている。 2024.05.27 14:00 Mon
