移籍回数、在籍クラブ数の世界記録を保持する元ウルグアイ代表FWセバスティアン・アブレウ(44)が、ついに現役引退を決断した。フランス『レキップ』が伝えている。
プロキャリア27年間で31クラブでプレーした稀有なキャリアを歩んできたアブレウは、11日に行われたリベルプールとスド・アメリカの一戦を最後に現役を退くことを明かした。
この発表を受けて、スド・アメリカはクラブ公式『ツイッター』を通じて、「今週の金曜日、“エル・ロコ”ことセバスティアン・アブレウはプロフットボールから引退する。我々はこの素晴らしい物語を締めくくるため彼に同行できることを誇りに思う。ウルグアイ・フットボール界を代表して、彼に心から感謝を伝えたい」と、アブレウへの感謝を伝えた。
なお、アブレウは現役引退後、すでに在籍クラブで担ってきた指導者としてのキャリアを歩んでいくとのことだ。
“エル・ロコ(変人)”の愛称で知られるアブレウは、2017年にサンタ・テクラ(エルサルバドル)から、ブラジル3部のバングに完全移籍。その際、移籍回数の世界記録(28回)を樹立した。
この世界記録樹立後はさらに8クラブ、8度の移籍を経験し、直近は31クラブ目となる母国のスド・アメリカに在籍していた。
これだけ多くのクラブを渡り歩いていると、その能力に疑いが出てくるが、193cmの長身ストライカーは、2002年の日韓ワールドカップに出場するなど、ウルグアイ代表として通算70試合に出場し、26ゴールという立派な数字を残し、2011年のコパ・アメリカでは、優勝に貢献している。アブレウのクラブ遍歴は以下の通り。
