ユベントスのMFウェストン・マッケニー(22)がアメリカ年間最優秀選手賞に輝いた。

アメリカサッカー連盟は18日、2020年の同国年間最優秀選手としてマッケニーを選出。マッケニーは全体で44%の支持を集め、チェルシーのMFクリスチャン・プリシッチ(27%)、バルセロナのDFセルジーニョ・デスト(14%)らを抑えての初の栄冠となる。3年連続で最終候補に入り、3度目の正直で初受賞を果たしたマッケニーは喜びの心境を語っている。

「この大きな名誉をもらえて、感謝したい。パンデミックが続く困難な時期のなかでだからなおさらだ。ずっと僕らと一緒にいてくれるファンにもすごく感謝している。うまくいけば、2021年はもっとたくさんの思い出を一緒に作っていけるはずさ」

マッケニーはシャルケのアカデミーで育ち、2017年5月にトップチームデビューを飾り、今夏に買い取りオプション付きのレンタルでユベントス入り。今季から誕生したアンドレア・ピルロ体制の補強一号としてだけでなく、ユベントス史上初のアメリカ人プレーヤーとしても注目され、ここまで公式戦13試合の出場で2得点2アシストの数字を収めている。

ボヌッチ、ミランでの“黒歴史”を回想…慎重に言葉を選ぶもミラニスタを傷つける?
