小田は中学生の頃から神戸の下部組織に在籍。2種登録された2019年にはYBCルヴァンカップでトップチームデビューを飾った。
トップチーム昇格が決まった小田は、クラブ公式サイトで以下のようにコメントしている。

3月のインターナショナルマッチデー(IMD)がいよいよ目前に迫ってきた。 1〜2月のアジアカップ(カタール)で8強止まりに終わった森保一監督率いる日本代表は、21日、26日に2026年北中米ワールドカップ(W杯)アジア2次予選・北朝鮮とのホーム&アウェー2連戦に挑む。日本中を失望させた大舞台から彼らがどう再起するのか。そこは大いに注目されるところだ。 一方、大岩剛監督率いるU-23日本代表は22日と26日にU-23マリ、U-23ウクライナとテストマッチを消化。4月に迫っているパリ五輪アジア最終予選を兼ねたAFC U-23アジアカップ(カタール)に向けた最終調整を進めることになる。 後者に関して言うと、4月の最終予選がIMDでないため、欧州組の拘束力はない。現時点では鈴木唯人(ブレンビー)、小田裕太郎(ハーツ)、鈴木彩艶(シント=トロイデン)、の招集が不可能と見られ、斉藤光毅と三戸舜介(スパルタ・ロッテルダム)も微妙と言われる。 彼らと同じ欧州組の佐野航大(NECナイメンヘン)もシーズン中ということで、チームが代表合流を認めるかどうかは未知数だが、最近の成長ぶりは目を見張るものがある。 昨夏に赴いたNECでは1月20日のトゥエンテ戦からリーグ7試合連続出場中(3月1日のフォレンダム戦時点)。しかも2月27日のKNVBカップ準決勝・カンピュール戦と1日のフォレンダム戦で連続ゴールをゲット。チームを勝利に導く原動力となっているのだ。これだけのインパクトを残しているとなれば、「パリ五輪経由2026年W杯行き」も現実味を帯びてきたと見てよさそうだ。 20歳の佐野航大はご存じの通り、アジアカップメンバーの佐野海舟(鹿島)の実弟。昨年4月のU-20W杯(アルゼンチン)に参戦し、注目度の高かった松木玖生(FC東京)や熊田直紀(ヘンク)以上に活躍。「日本で一番目立った選手」とも言われ、将来への期待も高まった。 「カテゴリーは落ちますけど、やっぱりW杯だったんで、本当に異様な空気感の中で戦いだった。球際やキワの部分の激しさもすごく感じました。そこで自分のやりたいプレーを出せたという自信はあります。でも、日本に帰ってきてからはプラスの方向に持って行けていない。強度やスピード感はJ2の方があると感じるので、そういうところに左右されないようにやらないといけない。もっと実力をつけないといけないかなと思います」とオランダに赴く直前の昨年7月末、彼はしみじみとこう語っていた。 より高みを目指して、早い段階での渡欧を決断。最初はNECでなかなか出番を得られなかったが、両ウイングやトップ下、ボランチやインサイドハーフなど中盤をマルチにこなせる能力を買われたのだろう。ウインターブレイク明けからは完全に主力に定着している。佐野航大より少し早くNECの一員になった小川航基のサポートも大きいのかもしれない。 ドイツで活躍した岡崎慎司(シント=トロイデン)も「自分も欧州最初にクラブだったシュツットガルトに高徳(酒井=神戸)がいて、次のマインツにも日本語の喋れるパク・チュホと意思疎通できるク・ジャチョル(済州ユナイテッド)がいたから本当に助かった」とと語っていたことがあるが、やはり当時19歳の若者にとっては日本人同士で共闘できる環境は大きかったのだろう。 「自分は攻撃の部分を得意としてるので、もっと守備や強度の部分っていうのを磨いていかないといけない。J2で戦っていても、そこは本当に反省点だと思うし、もっとやっていきたいですね」 渡欧前の本人は課題を口にしていたが、デュエルやボール奪取、寄せの激しさという部分は間違いなくオランダでレベルアップしたと言っていい。ボランチで出場したカンブール戦ではそういった印象を色濃く残した様子。相手がオランダ2部の格下だったとはいえ、屈強で大柄な相手と対峙しても互角以上に行けるようになったのは事実だ。 そういったタフさは今後、日の丸をつけて世界舞台で戦ううえで必要不可欠な要素。しかも複数ポジションを難なくこなすユーティリティ性は招集人数が限られている五輪のような大会にはもってこい。そのためにも、何とか3月のマリ、ウクライナ2連戦には滑り込みたいところ。大岩監督の判断が大いに気になる。 最終的にはA代表入りし、兄・海舟を超えていくことが本人の目指す領域。すでに兄より一足先に欧州の舞台に進出している佐野航大にはそのチャンスが少なからずある。 「お兄ちゃんの試合は本当に勉強になるし、自分は守備が苦手なので、お兄ちゃんから学べることっていうのは沢山ある。お兄ちゃんが上で引っ張ってくれてるっていうのが自分にとってはすごくいい刺激になってて、あそこに追いついて追い越さないと、自分は日本代表だったり、世界に行けない。僕らはそういう関係なのかなと思います」 常に兄の背中を追いかけているという佐野航大。2人揃ってブレイクし、日本代表をリードするようになっていければ理想的。まずはU-23日本代表入りという力強い一歩を踏み出し、成長曲線を一気に引き上げてほしいものである。 2024.03.10 12:30 Sun

「完全にイニエスタ」幼少期の最初の大会の写真をイニエスタが懐かしむ「素敵な思い出です!」
