ヴィッセル神戸は13日、元スペイン代表FWダビド・ビジャ(37)が今シーズン限りでの現役引退を発表した。
ビジャは、スポルティング・ヒホンの下部組織で育ち、2001年7月にトップチームへ昇格。2003年7月にレアル・サラゴサへ完全移籍すると、2005年7月にはバレンシアへと完全移籍した。
バレンシアでは、ストライカーとしての地位を確立。公式戦219試合に出場し127ゴール22アシストを記録し、2007-08シーズンはコパ・デル・レイ優勝を経験した。
2010年7月にはバルセロナへと移籍すると、公式戦119試合に出場し48ゴール24アシストを記録。ラ・リーガでは2010-11、2012-13シーズンの2回、コパ・デル・レイでは2011-12シーズン、チャンピオンズリーグでは2010-11シーズンで優勝を経験していた。
その後、2013年7月にアトレティコ・マドリーへと移籍。2013-14シーズンはラ・リーガを制し、自身も公式戦47試合で15ゴール5アシストを記録した。
また、スペイン代表としても2005年2月からプレーし、通算98試合に出場し63ゴールを記録。ワールドカップには2006年のドイツ大会、2010年の南アフリカ大会、2014年のブラジル大会に出場。ユーロも2008年大会に出場。ワールドカップで1度、ユーロで1度優勝を経験し、2008年のユーロ、2010年のワールドカップでは得点王に輝いていた。

今夏開催35歳以上のW杯、内田篤人氏が考える日本代表の仮想メンバーは?「空気の読める人を」…適任者に難しいと感じる人も

「難波にいる(笑)」イニエスタが12mの巨大獅子構える神社に興奮「日本にはユニークなスポットがたくさん」

「TJ、今年で引退します!!」 田中順也が36歳で現役生活に終止符
