▽2戦連続延長戦の戦いを経て、史上初のワールドカップ(W杯)決勝進出に王手をかけたクロアチア代表。目指して、11日の準決勝でイングランド代表と対戦した。1点を追う苦しい展開を余儀なくされたが、後半に追いつくと、延長後半に勝ち越しに成功。1966年大会以来の決勝進出を狙ったイングランド代表を蹴落とした。
