「彼はすぐに失敗した」ジョン・テリー氏がチェルシー時代の反乱を告白…若手との飛行機の座席を巡り指揮官と対立の過去
チェルシーのレジェンドでもある元イングランド代表DFジョン・テリー氏が、現役時代のとある出来事の裏側を明かし、指揮官との対立に言及した。イギリス『デイリー・メール』が伝えた。 現役時代はチェルシーの最終ラインを長らく支え、クラブの栄光の時期を牽引したテリー氏。先日は、プレミアリーグの殿堂入り(Hall of Fame)を果たしていた。 多くの成功を収め、チェルシーにも栄光をもたらせたテリー氏だったが、かつて指揮官と衝突したことをYouTubeチャンネル「Up Front With Simon Jordan」で明かした。 テリー氏が衝突したのは、アンドレ・ビラス=ボアス監督。ポルトガル期待の若手指揮官として、ポルトで成功すると、カルロ・アンチェロッティ監督の後任として2011年6月から指揮を執っていた。 大きな期待が寄せられたビラス=ボアス監督だったが、2012年3月に解任。わずか8カ月程度でチェルシーでのキャリアを終え、ロベルト・ディ・マッテオ監督に引き継いでいた。 テリーは、ビラス=ボアス監督就任後のマレーシアでのプレシーズンツアーでいきなり問題が起きたことを告白。移動の飛行機の座席が大きな物議をもたらしたとした。 「我々は飛行機に乗り、13時間のフライトでエコノミーに座った」 「そして、ジョシュ・マクイークラン、ナサニエル・チャロバー、その他の何人かの若い選手は全員ファーストクラスにいた。これはAVB(ビラス=ボアス)の『自分より偉い選手はいない。みんな同じだ』という方針の一環だった」 「ランプス(フランク・ランパード)はファーストクラスで出発し、私はファーストクラスで帰ってくることが判明した。つまり、最初にファーストクラスに乗れば、エコノミーで帰国するということになるが、それは十分ではなかった」 「そして私は飛行機に乗り『ノー。若い選手がエコノミーに戻り、このクラブを今日まで築き上げたトップの選手たちがファーストクラスに戻って来るまで、どこにも行かない』と言った」 「我々は飛行機の中にいて、皆行ったり来たりしていた。するとAVBがやってきて『何か問題か?』と言ってきた。私は『まぁ、若い選手が移動するまで、どこにも行けないよ』と答えた。すると、若い選手たちは公平を期すため、『ここは本当に不快だ。戻ろう』と言っていた。私は『いや、君たちが決めることではない。彼が決めることだ』と伝えた」 テリーは、チームを支えてきた主力選手と、当時はまだ実績もない若手選手が同等に扱われることはおかしいと感じたという。ましてや、長距離フライトというコンディションに大きな影響を与える部分で、平等に扱おうとしたビラス=ボアス監督の考えは、間違っているとした。 「これは彼がみんなの前で最初に行ったことの1つだ。結局、これが混乱させた。トップの選手がファーストクラスに行き、若手がエコノミーに行った。そうあるべきだ。若い選手たちは我々の地位を目指して努力しており、それを表明しようとしていた」 「彼はチームにやってきてすぐに失敗した。なぜなら、飛行機は飛ばなかったからだ。もうそのままだったら、フランク(・ランパード)とディディエ(・ドログバ)なしではうまくいかなかったはずだ」 当時のエースであるディディエ・ドログバや、中心選手であったフランク・ランパードですら、行きか帰りのどちらかでエコノミークラスに座らせようとしたビラス=ボアス監督。チーム内で実力以外の優劣をつけないという考えは理に叶う部分もあるが、別のやり方も十分にあったはず。多くの成功を収めてきた選手たちを、自分の思う通りにコントロールしようとしすぎたのは失敗だったのかもしれない。 2024.04.26 15:40 Fri

アストン・ビラがスタジアム改修をスタート、ユーロ2028の会場となり5万人収容に変貌へ
