▽第44回トゥーロン国際大会が19日に行われ、グループB第1節のU-21イングランド代表vsU-20ポルトガル代表は、イングランドが1-0で勝利した。

▽試合は、積極的な入りを見せたイングランドが押し込んでゴールに近づくも、ゴールネットを揺らすことができない。一方、ポルトガルも時間の経過につれて巻き返していくが、なかなかシュートまで持ち込めない。

▽試合はイエローカードが飛び交うなど激しさが増す中、32分にイングランドが決定機を迎える。キャプテンを務めるワード=プラウズの左CKからチャロバーがボックス左付近から左足を振り抜く。だが、弧を描いたシュートはGKの右腕一本に阻まれた。

▽冷や汗をかかされたポルトガルだったが、40分に決定機。左サイドでシャンド・シウヴァがカットインから左足で強襲。この強烈なシュートが枠を捉えるも、GKの好守に阻まれた。

▽ゴールレスで迎えた後半、ロマーリオ・バルデを起点に良い入りを見せたポルトガルに押し込まれていたイングランドだったが、60分に試合を動かす。右サイドのクロスがDFにクリアされるも、ボックス右にいたロフタス=チークがこのボールに反応。これを折り返し、最後はベーカーが詰めてゴールネットを揺らした。

▽その後、72分にロフタス=チークを下げてグリーリッシュを投入し勢いが増したイングランドがリードを保ったままタイムアップ。将来を嘱望される有望株が多く揃うイングランドがポルトガルとの接戦を制し初戦を勝利で飾った。
