マンチェスター・ユナイテッド一筋、通算400試合出場を誇るレジェンドの1人である元イングランド代表DFギャリー・ネビル。引退後は監督業も行っていたが、現在は解説者として活躍している。

そのG・ネビル氏がオリンピアンとの短距離走に挑む雄姿がイギリス『Sky Bet』のツイッターで公開された。

相手はイギリス代表として東京オリンピックにも参加するディナ・アッシャー・スミスさん。2019年の世界選手権では女子200mで金メダルを獲得し、100mと200mでイギリスのナショナルレコードを保持するトップアスリートだ。

合図と同時にいいスタートを切ったG・ネビル氏は、そのまま加速していく。しかし、20mを過ぎた地点でアクシデントが発生。叫び声をあげ、左のもも裏を抑えて突然減速していった。

どうやら、G・ネビル氏はハムストリングを負傷してしまった様子。本人は苦笑いとともに患部をさすり続けるが、視聴者には大うけだった。

痛めたタイミングが抜かれた瞬間だっために「わざとじゃない?」などの冗談を口にするファンも。いくら右サイドを駆け抜け続けたとはいえ、10年のブランクではかなわなかった。

本来であれば、現役の短距離走者が引退したサッカー選手と比べてどれくらい速いのかを見せる企画だったのだろう。思わぬアクシデントに見舞われはしたが、これはこれで面白い画が撮れたと思っているかもしれない。

1位に輝いたのは、アストン・ビラでプレーするスイス女子代表のアリーシャ・レーマン。世界一セクシーなアスリートとしても知られ、インスタグラムのフォロワーは1340万人。元プロテニスプレーヤーのロジャー・フェデラーを超え、インスタグラムで最も人気のあるスイス人アスリートとなっている。アストン・ビラでは2シーズンでFA女子スーパーリーグ(FAWSL)で43試合に出場し7ゴール。スイス代表としても38キャップを記録している。 イングランド代表のユニフォームが変? ファンが気づいた異変はベテランキットマンのまさかのミス…「間違ってしまった」

FIFA公式がロシアW杯ベストイレブンを発表! ヤングやパウリーニョら“クセがすごい”選出も…
