アーセナルやマンチェスター・シティ、トッテナムで活躍した元トーゴ代表FWエマヌエル・アデバヨール(39)が21日、自身のインスタグラムで現役引退を発表した。
｢最高なことから最低なことまでプロ選手として私のキャリアは信じられないような旅だった。そんな中でも常に私のファンであった人たちに感謝している。今後、何が起こるかを楽しみにしているよ!｣
メスで頭角を現した大型ストライカーのアデバヨール。足元の技術も巧みな点取り屋はその後、モナコを経て2006年夏にアーセナルへ移籍。
2007-08シーズンにはFWティエリ・アンリがバルセロナに移籍した中、エースとして活躍。プレミアリーグで24ゴールを挙げた。
その後はマンチェスター・シティ、レアル・マドリー、トッテナムとビッグクラブを渡り歩いたが、シティ在籍時の2009-10シーズン、ゴールセレブレーションでアーセナルサポーターのいる逆サイドのゴールまで全力で走って向かった挑発行為はアデバヨールの語り草となっている。
トーゴ代表としては85試合に出場して32ゴールを記録。2007年にはトーゴ人として初めてアフリカ年間最優秀選手に輝いていた。

トーゴ代表としては85試合に出場して32ゴールを記録。2007年にはトーゴ人として初めてアフリカ年間最優秀選手に輝いていた。
