今シーズンからイスタンブール・バシャクシェヒルでプレーするエジル。しかし、背中のケガなどの影響で今シーズンは欠場が続いていた。
今年に入り復帰。スュペル・リグの直近3試合ではプレーしていたが、突如として引退を決断したという。
トルコ『ファナティック』の記者であるヤクプ・チナール氏によると、エジルはクラブとの契約を早期に解消し、引退を決断したとのこと。3日のチームトレーニングに参加せず、チームメイトに別れの挨拶をしたと伝えている。
トルコ系ドイツ人でもあるエジルは、シャルケやブレーメンでプレー。2010年8月にレアル・マドリーへと移籍すると、2013年9月にはアーセナルへと移籍する。
しかし、2020年以降は急激にパフォーマンスが低下。出番が限られると、2021年1月にフェネルバフチェへ完全移籍。しかし、トルコではさらに苦しい状況が待っており、今シーズンはわずか7試合しかプレーできていなかった。

若手発掘にも力を入れるミラン、次に狙うはアーセナル&シャルケの逸材か

内田篤人氏の13年前の姿にファンが驚き「なんと初々しい」「めっちゃ若い」

現役引退・内田篤人の功績、CL日本人最長出場記録
