シティCEOがCL回顧…「レアル・マドリーの優勝はツキもあった」

マンチェスター・シティの重役が2021-22シーズンのチャンピオンズリーグ(CL)を制したレアル・マドリーに持論を展開した。スペイン『マルカ』が伝えている。

レアル・マドリーは決勝トーナメントに入ると、パリ・サンジェルマン(PSG)、チェルシー、そしてシティと強烈な相手とぶつかったが、いずれも逆転突破。リバプールとの決勝も全体的に押されたが、ベルギー代表GKティボー・クルトワの踏ん張りとブラジル代表FWヴィニシウス・ジュニオールの一発で4季ぶりのビッグイヤーを掲げた。

シティの最高経営責任者(CEO)を務めるフェラン・ソリアーノ氏は『SounCloud』で配信されるポッドキャスト『Dr. Football』にて2021-22シーズンのCLを振り返り、レアル・マドリーの優勝を例に運の必要性を説いた。

「レアル・マドリーのCL優勝が話題になっているが、あれはツキもあったと思う。彼らはPSGやチェルシー、シティ、リバプールに負けるのが妥当だったとも言えるだろうね」

「80年代の終わり頃、マドリーはエミリオ・ブトラゲーニョを擁する史上最高のチームだったにもかかわらず、CLを優勝できなかった。人々はそのことを覚えていないんだ」

また、2008年にUAEの投資グループに買収されて以降、プレミアリーグ屈指の強豪へと成り上がり、次はCLのタイトルが求められるが、同CEOはリーグ戦に重きを置いているようだ。

「CLでは運も絡んでくるし、我々の主要な目標ではない。今回の準決勝のようにひとたび調子を崩せば、敗退の憂き目に遭う試合がほとんどだ。(CLでは)あの準決勝のように、一度ミスをしたらそこで終わりという試合がほとんどだ。リーグを制するものはそのリーグ最高のチームであり、それが我々の使命だ」

近年のプレミアリーグで“過小評価されていた選手”として常に名前が挙がる元スパーズMFに、新たな賞賛の言葉が送られている。イギリス『Sport Bible』が伝えている。 2022年に広州富力(現・広州城)で現役を引退した元ベルギー代表MFムサ・デンベレは、2010年8月から2019年1月までフルアムとトッテナムのロンドン2クラブで活躍。とりわけ、マウリシオ・ポチェッティーノが率いたスパーズ時代には中盤の絶対的な主力に君臨していた。 185cmの恵まれた体躯と強靭なフィジカルに加え、足元の技術が非常に高く、ボールを持てば圧倒的なキープ力と高精度の左足を駆使したドリブル、パスで易々と局面を打開。守備時もそのフィジカルを活かして簡単にボールを奪い切り、ハイレベルのボックス・トゥ・ボックスとして評価を得ていた。ただ、少なくない負傷離脱やゴール、アシストという目に見える貢献の少なさもあって、そのパフォーマンスに見合う評価を得られなかった。それでも、トッテナム、ベルギー代表の同僚、同時期にプレミアリーグで対峙してきた多くのライバルは、「最強のチームメイト」、「最もタフな対戦相手」といった表現で怪物MFを称賛。恩師ポチェッティーノも「フットボールの天才」と激賞したこともあった。そのデンベレに新たな賞賛の言葉を送ったのが、マンチェスター・シティのイングランド代表DFカイル・ウォーカー。シティとイングランド代表で多くの名手と共演してきた右サイドバックは、元イングランド代表DFのリオ・ファーディナンド氏が運営するYouTube『Vibe with FIVE』で、これまで一緒にプレーした最高の選手について問われると、元スペイン代表MFダビド・シルバと共にスパーズ時代の同僚の名前を挙げた。まずシティの元同僚で昨夏惜しまれながらも現役を引退したエル・マーゴについては「あなたが彼に悪いボールをパスしたとしても、彼はそれを良いボールのように見せてくれる。彼はあなたをより良く見せてくれる。ダビドはとても素晴らしかったよ。ケビン(・デ・ブライネ)はオールラウンダーだけど、ダビドは個人的なプレーヤーだった」と、称賛の言葉を送った。多くの名手を抑え、そのシルバと共にすぐさま名前が挙がったデンベレについては、「スキャンダル」との独特な表現でその才能を絶賛している。「ダビドあるいは、ムサ・デンベレのことは何度も言ってきた。彼はスキャンダルだ。デンベレに欠けていたのはアシストとゴールだけだけど、彼には馬鹿げたほどの才能があった。そんなことは許されるべきではなかったよ(笑)」さらに、デンベレが現在のシティにフィットするかと問われると、「100万パーセント」と確信に満ちた返答を行っている。 2024.03.27 08:00 Wed
