国際サッカー連盟(FIFA)が、アルゼンチン代表の36年ぶり3度目の優勝に終わったカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)を振り返り、日本代表を「際立った存在」にピックアップした。

18日、決勝のアルゼンチン代表vsフランス代表が行われ、3-3のドローで120分間が終了。PK戦の末にアルゼンチンが4-2で勝利を収めた。アルゼンチンは偉大なる選手の1人であるFWリオネル・メッシのラストW杯となり、フランスは60年ぶり3カ国目の連覇達成を目指した中、メッシとフランスのエースFWキリアン・ムバッペが互いに魅せる展開に。メッシが2ゴールを決めれば、ムバッペはハットトリックを達成し、多くの見せ場を作った試合となった。

FIFAは優勝したアルゼンチンの他、アフリカ勢初のベスト4入りを果たしたモロッコ代表、そして3位に輝いたクロアチア代表と共に、日本をピックアップ。グループステージの戦いを称えた。
