3日前に行われたオーストリア代表戦を1-1の引き分けに持ち込んだものの、ここまで2分け1敗と未勝利の最下位フランス(勝ち点2)は、ベンゼマ、ムバッペ、エンクンクの3トップで臨んだ。
一方、前節デンマーク代表戦を制して初勝利とした3位クロアチア(勝ち点4)は、モドリッチ、ブロゾビッチ、コバチッチが先発。フランス同様に[4-3-3]で臨んだ。
試合は開始3分、CKの流れからブディミルがコナテに倒されてクロアチアがPKを獲得。これをモドリッチが決めてクロアチアが先制すると、その後は自陣に引いたクロアチアをフランスが崩せない状況が続いた。
そのまま1点ビハインドで迎えた後半、フランスはチュアメニとパヴァールを投入。

F・メンディ離脱でヴェレトゥを追加招集…フランス代表でメンバー変更

「鶏デカすぎ」「ケンタッキーとのコラボか?」フランス代表の新ユニフォームにはビッグサイズのロゴが採用「巨大すぎない?」
