AFCチャンピオンズリーグ(ACL)のグルーステージを突破した神戸は、埼玉で開催されているノックアウトステージに出場。ラウンド16では、横浜F・マリノスと対戦し、3-2で勝利を収めた。

リーグ戦での順位は大きく離れている相手との試合に勝利し、勝ち上がりが期待された中、22日に行われた全北現代モータース(韓国)戦ではスタメン7名を変更。その影響か、ピッチ上ではミスが散見。意思疎通も上手くいかず、攻撃面では単独突破も実らないなど苦しんだ。

後半に途中出場の汰木康也がネットを揺らして先制するも、すぐに追いつかれる始末。延長戦では2失点を喫し、1-3でベスト8敗退となった。

全北戦にフル出場し、ミドルシュートで打開を図った場面もあった山口は試合後にインスタグラムを更新。神戸サポーターの写真を添え、敗退の悔しさと悲痛な思いを赤裸々に綴っている。

「全北戦応援ありがとうございました。何を書くべきかずっと考えてて、でも考えても考えても出てくるのはファン、サポーターの皆さんに申し訳ない、チームに関わる全ての人に、チームメイトに申し訳ない気持ちしか出てこない」

「俺はチームを勝たせれる力もないしそんな選手でもないのはわかってる。だから泥臭く必死にやるしかないと思ってた」

「でも一つのミスが失点に繋がりチームが負ける事はある。その現実を突きつけられた気がする。去年あれだけ必死に戦って勝ち取ったACLの舞台こんな形で終わるとは思ってなかったし懸ける思いも強かった。自分がどれだけ無能なのか。チームに本当に必要なのか」

J1連覇のキャプテン、神戸MF山口蛍が長崎に完全移籍「J1昇格に向けて持てる力は全て出します!」

「日本に住んで3年になりますが」イニエスタの妻が日本生活での驚きを打ち明ける「いまだに驚いています」
