アメリカは5日、東京オリンピックの女子サッカー3位決定戦でオーストラリア女子代表と対戦した。

メダルなしで終わるわけにはいかない絶対女王は、代表キャップが300試合を超えるFWカーリー・ロイドを筆頭に、FWクリステン・プレス、ラピノーを3トップで起用して臨んだ。

絶対に負けられない状況下、プレッシャーよりもプライドが上回るのか。開始早々にラピノーが魅せた。

左からのCKを得ると、短い助走からラピノーがキック。ボールは最高到達点を越えてから急激に曲がり、そのままネットに吸い込まれた。

メダルの懸かる一戦でコーナーを直接沈める芸当にファンも驚きの様子だ。「あごが落ちたよ」、「なんてレジェンドだ」、「まさにオリンピコ!」といった称賛の声が相次いだ。

試合はその後追い付かれながらも、またしてもラピノーが圧巻の右足ダイレクトボレーをゴールネットへ突き刺してアメリカが勝ち越す。最終的にはトータル4-3となった打ち合いをアメリカが制し、銅メダルを獲得した。
