マンチェスター・ユナイテッドがクラブOBの息子たちとプロ契約を交わしたようだ。
そのクラブOBとは元スコットランド代表MFのダレン・フレッシャー氏だ。ユナイテッドではアカデミー出身の選手として2003〜2015年まで活躍。当時のチームが華やかなメンツで彩られるなか、豊富な運動量と献身性をもってして中盤の主力としてプレーした。
そんなフレッシャー氏も40歳となり、古巣ユナイテッドのテクニカルディレクターを務める傍ら、私生活では大きく育った息子たちのパパ。双子のジャックとタイラーは昨夏にマンチェスター・シティのアカデミーからユナイテッドのアカデミーに移籍し、話題を集めた。
イギリス『デイリー・メール』によると、2人はユナイテッド入りして以来、印象的で、ジャックの方はエリク・テン・ハグ監督に好印象を与えてシニアチームの練習に急きょ参加したほど。今年3月19日が17歳の誕生日だった両者は揃ってプロ契約にサインしたという。
今季のシニアチームではマーカス・ラッシュフォード、スコット・マクトミネイ、アレハンドロ・ガルナチョに続き、アカデミー出身選手からコビー・メイヌーが台頭。ジャックとタイラーも父を追うように将来のシニアチームで活躍が期待されるが、いかに。

マンチェスター・ユナイテッドに所属するポルトガル代表FWクリスティアーノ・ロナウドが、生まれたばかりの双子のうち男の子が亡くなったことを知らせた。
昨年10月にパートナーであるジョルジーナ・ロドリゲスさんの懐妊を公表していたC・ロナウドは、18日に自身のインスタグラムを更新。男女の双子の出産と、そのうち男の子がすぐに亡くなったことを以下の声明文とともに発表した。
「深い悲しみとともに、僕たちは誕生したばかりの男の子が亡くなったことをお知らせしなければならない。それは親が感じる最大の痛みだ。女の子の誕生だけが、僕たちに希望と幸せとともに、この瞬間を生きる力を与えてくれる」
「医師や看護師たちの専門的なケアとサポートに感謝したい。僕たちはこの喪失感に打ちのめされており、この非常に困難な時期にプライバシーを求めます」
「僕たちの男の子、あなたは天使です。僕たちは永遠にあなたを愛します」
この発表を受け、マンチェスター・ユナイテッドは公式ツイッターで「クリスティアーノ、君の痛みは我々の痛みだ。あなたとご家族に愛と強さを送ります」との声明を発表。
また、C・ロナウドがかつての所属したレアル・マドリーも公式サイトを通じて「ご家族の皆様、親愛なる全ての人々に対して心からお悔やみを申し上げます」と哀悼の意を表している。
そのほか、チームメイトのイングランド代表FWマーカス・ラッシュフォードやマンチェスター・シティ、リーズ・ユナイテッド、プレミアリーグなども追悼のメッセージをツイートしている。

マンチェスター・ユナイテッドは25日、2024-25シーズンのアウェイキットを発表。驚きのカラーリングが話題を呼んでいる。
アディダスと共に発表されたアウェイキット。クラブの本拠地であるマンチェスターの「M」をエンボス加工したグラフィックが特徴となっている。
カラーはまさかのブルー。ロイヤルブルーの「M」のテクスチャーは、ネイビーブルのベースに円形のパターンで繰り返し施されている。これは30年前のユナイテッドのキットによく見られた3Dモノグラムのオマージュだという。
また、マンチェスターを流れるアーク川、メドロック川、アーウェル川の3つの川にも敬意を表している。また、ポロ襟がついたモデルとなっており、アウェイでプレーする中で、ファンと本拠地を結びつけるものとなっている。
過去にも存在した青いキットだが、マンチェスターには青いチームが存在。近年プレミアリーグの覇権を握り続けるライバルのシティとは大きくカラーリングは異なるが、属性として青であることは変わらない。
ファンは「マンチェスターは青ということを認めたのか?」、「つまり、マンチェスターは青?」、「なんだか寒気がしてきた」、「デザインは良いが本当にこの色でいいのか?」、「ホームよりはデザインが良い」、「カッコいいのは認める」、「最悪な知らせだ」と賛否両論。デザインは気に入られているものの、やはりライバルクラブと同じ属性の「青」は受け入れ難いようだ。
モデルには、なでしこジャパンのFW宮澤ひなたやアルゼンチン代表DFリサンドロ・マルティネス、ブラジル代表MFカゼミロの他、移籍も噂されるイングランド代表FWマーカス・ラッシュフォードも起用されており、話題となっている。
