AFC U23アジアカップに臨むU-23韓国代表メンバーが発表された。
16日からカタールで開催される同大会。パリ・オリンピックの出場権を懸けた戦いとなり、アジアに与えられた3.5枠を争うこととなる。
大岩剛監督率いるU-23日本代表とグループステージで同居する韓国。グループの上位2カ国がベスト8進出を果たす中で、五輪の切符を争うライバルとなる。
そのチームには、セルティックのMFヤン・ヒョンジュンやブレントフォードのDFキム・ジス、デュッセルドルフのMFキム・ミンウら海外組も招集されている。
その他、2023年の U-23ワールドカップ(W杯)でベスト4に入ったメンバーからキム・ジンスら5名が招集。アジア競技大会のメンバーから3名が招集されている。
韓国はKリーグ1組の18名が国内キャンプを行い、5日にUAEへ移動。再びキャンプを行い、10日にカタール入りする予定とのことだ。なお、海外組の合流時期は未定となっている。

ダービー・カウンティのコーチ兼任選手である元イングランド代表FWウェイン・ルーニーが古巣マンチェスター・ユナイテッドで共闘した元韓国代表MFのパク・チソン氏の重要性と偉大さを主張した。イギリス『デイリー・メール』が報じている。
京都パープルサンガ(現・京都サンガFC)でもプレーしたパク・チソン氏は2005年夏にサー・アレックス・ファーガソン元監督の目に止まり、オランダの強豪PSVからユナイテッドに移籍。QPR移籍を果たすまで実に7シーズンにわたり、“レッド・デビルズ”の一員として働き、チャンピオンズリーグ(CL)制覇や4度のプレミアリーグ優勝を経験した。
そんなパク・チソン氏と7シーズンにわたり、ユナイテッドのために共闘したルーニー。イギリス『タイムズ』で連載するコラムのなかで、圧倒的な運動量と献身性で一世を風靡した元韓国代表MFについて、ポルトガル代表FWクリスティアーノ・ロナウド(現ユベントス)の名を挙げ、次のように称賛した。
「12歳ぐらいの子供にクリスティアーノ・ロナウドを尋ねたら、すぐに『そうさ。彼はマンチェスター・ユナイテッドのブリリアントな選手だった』と言うだろうが、パク・チソンを尋ねたら、誰のことかわからないかもしれない。そんなのクレイジーだ」
「でも、パクと一緒にプレーした選手なら誰もが僕らの成功に重要な役割を担う選手だったと認識している。それはパクがチームにもたらしたものであり、僕自身もチームとしての話がしたい。スポーツだと、スターじゃない選手が最も重要な存在なのさ」

また、ルーニーはパク・チソン氏の活躍が強く脳裏に焼きつく試合として、2009-10シーズンに行われたCL決勝トーナメント1回戦のミラン戦を挙げ、ファーガソン氏からの指令を完遂してみせた“遂行力”に驚いた当時を振り返っている。

AFC U20女子アジアカップのグループA最終節の2試合が各地で行われ、U-20オーストラリア女子代表と、U-20韓国女子代表がノックアウトステージ進出と、8月末からコロンビアで開催されるU-20女子ワールドカップ(W杯)の出場権を獲得した。
引き分け以上でグループステージ突破が決まる2連勝中のオーストラリアは、U-20チャイニーズ・タイペイ女子代表と対戦し、3-0で勝利。3連勝で首位通過を決めた。
20分にキャプテンの右サイドバック、ジェシカ・ナッシュが先制点を挙げると、40分にはクロスからザラ・クルーガーが追加点を奪取。折り返しての81分には、CKからクラウディア・シッコがダメ押しゴールを奪い、守ってもクリーンシートでゲームを締めた。
雪中戦となった初戦のオーストラリア戦こそ逆転負けで落とした韓国だが、第2戦ではチャイニーズ・タイペイに6-0と大勝すると、雨天の最終節、U-20ウズベキスタン女子代表戦でも13得点を挙げての圧勝劇を披露した。
8分にホン・チェビンが口火を切ると、その2分後にはヤン・ウンソが加点する。20分にキム・ジヒョンがゴールを奪えば、22分、34分とネットを揺らしたホン・チェビンは前半だけでハットトリックを達成。前半の追加タイムにはファン・ダヨンも得点を記録し、韓国は前半だけで大量6点のリードを奪う。
折り返しての49分には再びヤン・ウンソ、61分にはファン・ダヨンと、とどまるところを知らない韓国は、66分にヤン・ウンソもハットトリックを達成し、その後も4点を追加。終わってみれば13-0と圧倒的な力量差を見せつけ、2位でノックアウトステージ進出と、W杯出場を決めた。
準決勝はいずれも13日に行われ、A組1位のオーストラリアはB組の2位と、A組2位の韓国はB組の1位と対戦する。なお、日本を含めたグループBの最終節は、10日に行われる。

▽韓国の伝説的なGKが現役を退いた。元韓国代表の守護神であるGKキム・ビョンジ(46)が自身のフェイスブックで引退宣言をした。
▽1992年に蔚山現代でプロキャリアをスタートさせたキム・ビョンジは、浦項スティーラース、FCソウル、慶南FC、全南ドラゴンズと韓国クラブでプレー。現役生活24シーズンで公式戦通算706試合に出場していた。
▽昨年9月にKリーグクラシックの水原三星ブルーウィングス戦が現役最後のゲームとなった。なお、当時は45歳5カ月15日でありKリーグの最年長出場記録を樹立した。昨シーズン限りで全南ドラゴンズを退団すると、今年はフリーの状態が続いていた。最年長出場記録以外にも、Kリーグでのクリーンシートが229試合を記録し、最多無失点試合記録を樹立。出場試合数もリーグ最多記録を保持している。
▽また、韓国代表としても62キャップを記録。1998年のフランス・ワールドカップでは3試合に出場、2002年の日韓ワールドカップではチームがベスト4入りするも出場機会はなかった。なお、特徴的な髪型から「鳥の尾頭」というニックネームで呼ばれており、Kリーグでは3得点を記録している。

31日、東京オリンピックの男子サッカーの準々決勝4試合が行われる。U-24日本代表がU-24ニュージーランド代表との一戦に臨む中、ライバルでもあるU-24韓国代表はU-24メキシコ代表との戦いを迎える。
そんな中、韓国代表のFWチョン・ソンウォン(24)のイケメンぶりにも大きな注目が集まっている。
大邱FCに所属するチョン・ソンウォンは今シーズンのKリーグ1で主に右サイドで起用され、13試合1ゴールをマーク。A代表経験はないものの、AFC U-23選手権タイ2020にも選出。4試合に出場しU-23韓国代表の優勝にも貢献している。
選手としても確かな実力を持つチョン・ソンウォンだが、最大の注目はそのルックス。K-POPのアイドルを彷彿とさせるような端正な顔立ちにお洒落な髪型で絶大な人気を誇り、自身のインスタグラムでは60万人を超えるフォロワーを抱えている。その人気もあり大邱広域市広報大使まで務めている。
韓国メディアによると、チョン・ソンウォンは「大邱のアイドル」と呼ばれ、自身が幼稚園児の頃に2002年の日韓ワールドカップでの元韓国代表MFパク・チソン氏がポルトガル代表戦で決めたゴールを観て、サッカー選手を志すようになったという。
25日に行われたグループステージのU-24ルーマニア代表戦で相手選手と衝突。治療しながらもピッチに戻った際にはその情熱と美貌まで大きな話題になったとのことだ。
チョン・ソンウォンはオリンピックでここまで2試合に出場しているが、そのルックスは日本でも注目を集めており、韓国の音楽グループ「BTS(防弾少年団)のメンバーにいそう」「神は二物を与えたみたい」「優勝」といったコメントが寄せられている。
U-24メキシコ代表戦では、韓国の結果だけでなくチョン・ソンウォンのルックスにも注目だ。
