データおよびテクノロジーにおけるリーディングカンパニーの「ニールセン・グレースノート」が、オーストラリア&ニュージーランド女子ワールドカップ(W杯)に出場する選手のインフルエンサーとしてのランキングを発表した。
なでしこジャパンも出場する女子W杯。開幕までおよそ1カ月となった中で、各国の出場選手も決定している。
「ニールセン・グレースノート」は出場する選手の中での、インフルエンサーとしてのランキングを発表。フォロワーやフォロワーの増加、エンゲージメント率など、インスタグラム上の投稿ごとの平均ブランド価値を評価してランキングを発表した。
トップ10が発表され、実に9カ国の選手がランクイン。アメリカ女子代表のみが唯一2選手がランクインしている。
1位に輝いたのは、アストン・ビラでプレーするスイス女子代表のアリーシャ・レーマン。世界一セクシーなアスリートとしても知られ、インスタグラムのフォロワーは1340万人。元プロテニスプレーヤーのロジャー・フェデラーを超え、インスタグラムで最も人気のあるスイス人アスリートとなっている。
アストン・ビラでは2シーズンでFA女子スーパーリーグ(FAWSL)で43試合に出場し7ゴール。スイス代表としても38キャップを記録している。
2位には、バルセロナのエースでありスペイン女子代表のエースでもあるMFアレクシア・プテジャス。フォロワーは280万人であり、1位のレーマンがどれほどのフォロワーを抱えているかがわかる。
2シーズン連続でUEFA年間最優秀女子選手、バロンドールを受賞。2021年にはFIFA最優秀女子選手賞を受賞している。
2022年にはスペイン女子初となる代表100キャップに到達。その後、前十字じん帯を損傷し女子ユーロは欠場していた。
3位は、サンディエゴ・ウェーブスに所属するアメリカ女子代表FWアレックス・モーガン。フォロワーは1000万人だが、増加率やエンゲージメント率が低く、価値は3位となった。
言わずと知れたアメリカのエースで、過去2度のW杯優勝を経験。2012年のロンドン・オリンピックでは金メダルを獲得している。アメリカ女子代表として200キャップ以上を記録し、120ゴール以上を決めている。

プレーヤーとしての注目はもちろんのこと、インフルエンサーとしても注目を集める選手が多い女子W杯。残念ながらなでしこジャパンの選手はトップ10に入らなかったが、注目したいところだ。

しばしば最高のフリーキッカーの1人に数えられる元イングランド代表MFのデイビッド・ベッカム。数多く決めてきた直接FKの中でも最も特別なものとされるのが、2001年10月6日にオールド・トラッフォードで行われた日韓ワールドカップ(W杯) 欧州予選の最終節ギリシャ戦でのものだ。

カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)欧州予選で逮捕者が出た。イギリス『デイリー・メール』が伝えている。
12日に行われたW杯欧州予選のグループI第8節、イングランド代表vsハンガリー代表。聖地ウェンブリー・スタジアムに緊張が走ったのはキックオフ直前のことだ。
ひざまいたイングランドの選手たちに対し、一部のハンガリーサポーターから大きなブーイングが浴びせられた。さらに、警備員に対しても人種差別的行為がなされたとして、警察も出動。だが、興奮気味のサポーターは落ち着くどころか、暴動へと発展してしまう。
手を挙げるハンガリーサポーターに対し、警棒を使って沈静化を図る警察官。負傷者を出すまでになった事態は10分ほどを経過したところでようやく沈静化。結局、スタンドでは1人が人種的差別的な言動により公序良俗で逮捕され、2人が救急隊員への暴行で拘留されることに。スタンド外でも不法行為、酔っての無秩序行為、盗撮のためにそれぞれ1名ずつが逮捕された。
この件に関してイングランドサッカー協会(FA)は「今夜のFIFA2022ワールドカップ予選、アウェイセクションにおける事件を認識している。我々は事件を調査し、FIFAに報告する」と述べている。
ハンガリーは9月2日のホームでのイングランド戦でもファンによる人種差別行為があったばかり。6月に開催されたユーロ2020でも人種差別行為を行い、欧州サッカー連盟(UEFA)より罰金処分を受けていた。
なお、試合は1-1の引き分けに終わっている。

イングランド代表のガレス・サウスゲイト監督が、センターバック陣の世代交代を示唆した。イギリス『ミラー』が伝えている。
マンチェスター・ユナイテッドのDFハリー・マグワイア(30)、マンチェスター・シティのDFジョン・ストーンズ(29)が盤石の地位を築いているイングランド代表のセンターバック。この2人はカタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)の全5試合、3月の代表ウィーク2試合でも先発でコンビを組んでおり、サウスゲイト監督からの信頼は厚い。
しかし、最近はクリスタル・パレスのDFマーク・グエイ(22)が代表チームに定着。さらに、武者修行先のバーンリーで活躍したシティのU-21イングランド代表DFテイラー・ハーウッド=ベリス(21)、同じく武者修行先のブライトン&ホーヴ・アルビオンで株を上げたチェルシーのDFレヴィ・コルウィル(20)といった若手の招集も期待されている。
17日に行われたユーロ2024予選・第3節のマルタ代表戦ではマグワイアとグエイがコンビを組み、4-0の完勝に貢献。サウスゲイト監督は19日の第4節・北マケドニア代表戦に向けた前日会見に臨み、ユナイテッドで序列を落としているマグワイアに対する今シーズンの評価を与えた。
「マグワイアは世界的なビッグクラブのキャプテンでありながら、なかなかプレーできず苦労したことだろう。それでも、これはひとつの挑戦であり、彼がイングランド代表として見せた今シーズンのパフォーマンスは非常に良かったと思うよ」
クラブでの境遇とは対照的に、マグワイアの代表チームでのプレーは合格点だとした指揮官。ただ、センターバック陣の世代交代を意識しているとを明言した。
「我々コーチ陣は全ポジションに競争を望んでいる。グエイのことは大好きだし、実際にテストしただろう? 彼とコルウィルはリーグ最年少のトップDFだ。U-21のハーウッド=ベリスにも興味がある」
一方で、マグワイアと同世代のブライトンDFルイス・ダンク(31)、アストン・ビラのDFタイロン・ミングス(30)も絶賛し、幅広くポジション争いをしていきたいと語った。
「ダンクとミングスのシーズン後半戦は本当に素晴らしかった。チームを良い成績に導く活躍だったね。したがって、このポジションには激しい競争があり、我々コーチ陣もこれを念頭に置いているということだ」

アーセナルDFベン・ホワイトはイングランド代表でもうプレーしないのだろうか。
2021年6月に代表デビューを果たし、その夏にブライトン&ホーヴ・アルビオンからアーセナル入りしたホワイト。アーセナルでは本職のセンターバックでなく、右サイドバックとして地位を築き、今季のプレミアリーグでも開幕から3試合すべてにフル出場中だ。
代表にとっても堅実なプレーぶりに複数エリアをこなせるのも魅力的な選手だが、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)で個人的事情を理由に途中離脱してから不参加が続く。ガレス・サウスゲイト前監督はまだチームを率いた頃、本人の招集拒否を明らかにした。
当時のチームで出番が限られる状況だけでなく、アシスタントコーチだったスティーブ・ホランド氏との確執も要因の1つとされるなか、代表がサウスゲイト前体制から舵を切ったことで、復帰の可能性が取り沙汰されたが、今活動でもメンバーから外れている。
今月から暫定的に代表の指揮を執り、連勝締めのリー・カーズリー監督もまだオーディションの身ではあるが、イギリス『BBC』によると、今後の活動でホワイトを呼ぶ可能性、そして本人と話をする可能性を問われると、こう返したという。
「(本人と話をする)予定はない。ノーだ。その件についてはメンバー選考の際に話をした。代表でプレーする資格のある選手なら、その全員にチャンスがある」
