アーセナルのスコットランド代表DFキーラン・ティアニーが、自身の古巣であるセルティックの日本人選手について言及した。スコットランド『サン』が伝えた。
スコットランド生まれのティアニーはセルティックのアカデミー出身。2016年1月に18歳でファーストチームに昇格すると、左サイドバックのレギュラーとしてプレー。公式戦170試合で8ゴール37アシストを記録した。
2019年8月にアーセナルに加入すると、ケガなどに悩まされながらも公式戦110試合で5ゴール13アシストを記録。今シーズンは途中出場なども多いが公式戦23試合で1ゴール1アシストを記録している。
ティアニーは今でもセルティックのファンとして知られるが、そのセルティックは昨シーズンから一気に日本人選手が増加。FW古橋亨梧をはじめ、FW前田大然、MF旗手怜央、MF井手口陽介、DF小林友希、DF岩田智輝と6名が所属。また、アンジェ・ポステコグルー監督もJリーグからやってきたこともあり、日本に縁が強くなっている一方で、チームもリーグ制覇を成し遂げるなど大きく結果を残している。
アーセナルでは日本代表DF冨安健洋とチームメイトであるティアニーは、古巣の日本人選手についてコメント。冨安にそれぞれの選手について教えてもらっていると明かした。
「トミとはよく話をする。僕は日本から来た選手のことはよく知らなかったし、先月サインした2人も同じだ。僕はJリーグを観ていないから、トミに情報と選手としての考えを聞いたんだ」
「前田大然はカタールで開催されたワールドカップの日本代表でトミと一緒にいたね。トミは契約した全ての選手についてポジティブなことを言っていたし、それを聞いてとても嬉しいよ」
また、冨安についてもコメント。両サイドバックでプレーする冨安はライバルにもなるが、良い関係を築いているようだ。
「彼も本当に素晴らしい選手だし、素晴らしいチームメイトだ。とても良い仲間だ」
「僕はいつもトミと話をして、トレーニング場ではセルティックの試合があれば一緒によく観ている。僕は、彼をセルティックのファンにしようとしているんだ(笑)」
ティアニーと言えば、幼少期に当時セルティックでスター選手だった元日本代表MF中村俊輔からスパイクをもらったエピソードが有名。同じ左利きのキックの名手に憧れていたことは有名だが、中村が多くの日本人の憧れでもあると語った。
「おかしな話だけど、僕がセルティックで子供の頃に中村俊輔からスパイクをもらった古い映像をトミが見たらしい。彼はずっと前から気がついていたんだ」
「中村は子供の頃のトミのヒーローの1人だったけど、それは世界中の多くの日本人選手と同じだと思うよ」

北海道コンサドーレ札幌のDF田中駿汰が、1日に結婚を発表した。
田中はガンバ大阪U-15から履正社高校へと進学、大阪体育大学から2020年に札幌へと入団していた。
プロ入り前から注目を集め、大学時代の2019年12月に日本代表二発選出。EAFF E-1サッカー選手権に出場。プロ入り後も1年目からレギュラーとなりJ1で31試合2得点を記録。2年目、3年目とレギュラーでプレーしていた。
田中はクラブを通じてコメントしている。
「2月23日にかねてよりお付き合いさせて頂いておりました女性と入籍しました。大切な守るべき人ができ選手としてはもちろん人として一層成長していき、日々の生活を2人で支えながらともに歩んでいきたいと思います。引き続き応援の方よろしくお願いいたします」
また、自身のインスタグラムも更新。妻への愛を綴った。

世界的に有名な元ポルノ女優のミア・ハリファさん。現在は引退しており、インフルエンサーとして活躍しているが、実は大のサッカーファンとしても知られている。
現在29歳のミアさんは、スポーツ好きであり、特にサッカーがお気に入り。レバノン出身で、8歳の時に不安定な国内情勢の影響でアメリカへ家族と共に亡命していた。
世界的にも人気を博したミアさんはウェストハムのファンであることを公言。プレミアリーグのドリームチームを自身で組むなど、サッカーへの愛が非常に強いことでも知られている。
そのミアさんはYouTubeチャンネルの『AFTV』に出演。自身のお気に入りの現役選手3名を選ぶという企画に参加した。
しかし、ミアさんは現役選手ではなく、かつてマンチェスター・ユナイテッドでプレーし、イングランド代表のレジェンドでもあるデイビッド・ベッカムをまず挙げることに。「私は女性なのでベックスと言わざるを得ないわ」とコメント。理由が実に斬新で「12歳の時の私よりも高い声で彼が話すのを聞く度に、いつも笑わせてもらうわ。とても楽しいの」と、ベッカムの高い声がどうやらお気に入りらしい。
そして2人目に挙げたのがこれまた現役選手ではなく、ユベントスやレアル・マドリーで活躍し、フランス代表のレジェンドでもあるジネディーヌ・ジダンをピックアップした。
ジダンを選んだ理由については「ジネディーヌ・ジダンはサッカーを見てきた中で、最もエキサイティングだった」と、こちらは真面目にサッカー面でお気に入りの選手とのこと。ただ「私は暴力的なものが好きだけど、サッカーはバタバタしていて嫌になるわ。でもヘッドバッドは史上最高の瞬間だったわね」と、2006年のドイツW杯決勝でジダンがイタリア代表DFマルコ・マテラッツィに見舞った頭突きがお気に入りだという。
そして3人目に挙げたのが現役選手。唯一選ばれた現役選手はセルティックに所属し、カタール・ワールドカップ(W杯)にも出場したオーストラリア代表MFアーロン・モーイだ。
日本代表FW前田大然、MF旗手怜央、FW古橋亨梧、MF井手口陽介とチームメイトとして今シーズンプレー。かつてはウェスタン・シドニー・ワンダラーズでMF小野伸二(北海道コンサドーレ札幌)共プレーしたことがある。
モーイを選んだ理由については、「フットボール界のカワイ・レナードのようなものね」と語り、NBAのロサンゼルス・クリッパーズに所属するバスケットボールプレーヤーに例え、「モーイはレナードのように行動する。カメラは苦手だし、ちょっとおっちょこちょいだけど、それを感じさせないわ」と語り、「わからないけど、彼を思い出すの。カワイ・レナードは良い男よ」と、またしても独特な理由で選出していた。

セルティックに復帰したポルトガル人FWジョタが、早速のゴールを喜んでいる。クラブ公式サイトが伝えた。
先日、スタッド・レンヌからセルティックへの完全移籍が決まったジョタ。サウジ・プロ・リーグのアル・イテハドやレンヌを経て、日本代表FW古橋亨梧と入れ替わる形で1年半ぶりに古巣へ戻った。
2日に行われたスコティッシュ・プレミアシップ第25節のマザーウェル戦では、復帰後初のベンチ入り。試合は日本代表FW前田大然が開始早々のヘディング弾など1ゴール1アシストの活躍を見せ、2-1の1点リードで折り返す。
後半は日本代表MF旗手怜央のパスから3点目が決まりかけるが、オフサイドの判定でノーゴールに。それでも後半アディショナルタイム、65分からピッチに立っていたジョタが前田の右からの折り返しを押し込み、3-1の勝利で終えた。
復帰初戦から勝利に貢献したジョタ。試合後には「僕にとっては素晴らしい瞬間だし、これ以上良いストーリーは書けなかっただろう」と歓喜の言葉を述べている。
「結局は信じることが大事だ。ピッチに立った時からボールが来るだろうと常に信じていたし、最終的にそれが実現した」
「非常にパーソナルな瞬間だったし、それをセルティックファンと共有したかった。まるで昔を思い出すようだった」
また、レンヌで満足なプレータイムを得られていなかった25歳は、「ベストの状態に戻るまでまだ時間がかかると思う」と自らの状態にも言及。今後のさらなる活躍を誓っている。
「時間はかかるけど、当然そのために毎日一生懸命ハードワークするつもりだ」
「今日は本当に良いスタートだったけど、サッカーは常に進み続けるし、明日はまた別の日だ。また集中する必要がある。一日一日のことを考えて、それをできるだけ長く楽しむのが良い」
「重要なことがこれから起こるのはわかっているけど、大事なのは今を精一杯生きて、この瞬間をセルティックファンや家族と楽しむことだけだ。そして、明日はまたレノックスタウン(練習場)で頑張るよ」

いよいよカタールW杯に臨む日本代表メンバー26名の発表が11月1日に迫ってきた。ネットでも元代表選手がセレクトされる最終26人を予想しているものの、かなり"苦戦"を強いられているようだ。
というのもこれまで森保一監督はほぼ固定されたメンバー、いわゆる「ラージグループ」からの選手選考がほとんどだったため、「サプライズ選出」の可能性がほとんどないからだ。森保監督自身も言っているように、「これまで呼ばれたことのない選手」がW杯メンバー入りすることは100パーセントないと言っていい。
このため、盛り上がりに欠けるのも仕方のないことだろう。
個人的に「サプライズ選出」があるとすれが、9月のドイツ遠征で一度も起用されなかったMF旗手怜央がカタール行きのキップをつかむことだろうか。セルティックでは主力として結果を残している。左SBを始めボランチ、サイドハーフと複数のポジションをできる器用さもある。さらにMF守田英正、田中碧、FW三笘薫とはかつて川崎Fのチームメイトだ。
ここらを買って彼を推す代表OBもいるが、果たして森保監督の決断はいかに。
そして「サプライズ選出」がないかわりに、「サプライズ選外」の可能性を指摘する代表OBもいる。本来なら23名の登録枠が26名に増えたものの、それでもここ数試合で招集&起用された実績と、森保監督が採用するだろうシステムとスタメンから、"居場所がない"と思われる選手が出てきてしまう。
こればかりは"神のみ"ではなく"監督のみ"が知る専権事項である。そしてこの「サプライズ選外」は日本が初出場した98年フランスW杯から話題になってきた。Jリーグの開幕から日本代表の中心となってチームを牽引してきた、"キング"カズの落選である。
当時25人の選手で、キャンプ地のエクスレバンに入る前にスイス・ニヨンで合宿中だった岡田武史監督は、22人の最終メンバー登録締め切り日の6月2日の午前、テレビカメラの前でエントリーメンバー22人の名前を読み上げた。
そこで最後に、登録メンバーから外れるのは三浦知良、北澤豪、市川大祐の3人であることを発表した。
誰もが初めての経験となるW杯のメンバー発表。サッカーファンはもとより日本中の関心を集めたし、ジャージ姿の岡田監督ではあったが、日本サッカー界にとって過去に例のない盛大なショーでもあった。
そして岡田監督は「外れるのはカズ、三浦カズ」と言葉を発した。
カズが代表メンバーから外れるだろうと予測したメディアは皆無に近かった。確かにアジア最終予選では韓国戦での負傷から精彩を欠いたこともあった。それでも日本をW杯に導いた功労者である。そのカズがメンバー外になったことは大きなサプライズであり、朝のワイドショーは各局とも大々的に取り上げた。
当のカズと北澤はすぐにチームを離れ、イタリア経由で帰国した。空港での記者会見に金髪にして臨んだカズは「日本代表としての誇り、魂は向こうに置いてきた」との名言を残す。そしてその後も長く現役を続けながら、一度もW杯のメンバーに呼ばれることはなかった。
一方の岡田監督はというと、カズを外した理由をこう述べていた。「3試合をシミュレーションしたなかで、(カズと北澤を)使う場面がなかった」と。
この言葉を聞いて、当時は「第3GKだってほとんど出番はないのだから、例え3試合で出場機会はなくても、これまで日本代表を牽引した功労者だし、チームの象徴的な選手でもある。このため22人のメンバーに入れてあげたらどうだろうか。精神的な支柱にもなるかもしれない」と。
昨年3月のこと。「web Sportiva」の対談で岡田氏は当時の心境をもう少し詳しく述懐している。
「チームが勝つために徹底的にシミュレーションしていくなかで、一番出てくる回数が少なかったのがカズと北澤でした。負けているときは、高さのあるロペスや運動量のあるゴン(中山雅史)を出す。勝っているときは、若くて追い回せる選手がいい。だから、カズと北澤という選択肢が僕の中には出てこなかった」
確かにその通りだろうといま振り返っても納得してしまう。実際、10年南アフリカW杯では「若くて追い回せる」FWとして矢野貴章を「サプライズ選出」し、カメルーン戦(1-0)の残り8分に起用して逃げ切りに成功した。
しかし、「別の考え方もあっての決断ではないか」と考え直したのが2002年の日韓W杯であり、06年のジーコ・ジャパン、そして10年南ア大会の岡田ジャパンでの最終メンバー選考だった。そしてそれは、現在の森保ジャパンにも受け継がれているような気がしてならない。
