ショー氏はアストン・ビラでキャリアをスタート。1980-81シーズンにフットボールリーグ優勝、1981-82シーズンにチャンピオンズカップ(現:チャンピオンズリーグ)の優勝に貢献していた。

イングランド代表歴はないが、U-21イングランド代表ではストライカーとして活躍。アストン・ビラ以外にもブラックプール、コペンハーゲン、クラーゲンフルト、ウォルソール、キルマーノック、シュールズベリー・タウン、アーネスト・ボレルでプレーしていた。
