マンチェスター・ユナイテッドは新たな指揮官の候補として、イングランド代表のガレス・サウスゲイト監督(53)を最優先ターゲットに定めたようだ。

今シーズン、2年目となるエリク・テン・ハグ監督の下で思うようなシーズンを送れずにいるユナイテッド。FAカップこそ準決勝進出を果たしたが、チャンピオンズリーグ(CL)はまさかのグループステージ最下位で敗退、プレミアリーグも28試合を消化して6位と不本意な成績が続いている。

サー・ジム・ラトクリフ氏が正式に共同オーナーとなり改革へ動き出すクラブの中で、テン・ハグ監督の立場も危ういものに。イギリス『デイリー・スター』によると、ラトクリフ氏はクラブレジェンドたちと話し合いを重ねた結果、新時代を築く指揮官としてサウスゲイト監督の招へいを熱望。すでにユナイテッドの選手や今夏スポーツ・ディレクター(SD)への就任が濃厚とされるダン・アシュワース氏の支持も得ているという。

ただし、すべてはサウスゲイト監督の決断次第になる模様。サウスゲイト監督とイングランドサッカー協会(FA)の契約は今年末まで残っており、指揮官は夏のユーロ大会が終わるまで決断は下さないと明言している。

ユナイテッドとしては早い段階で指揮官を確定させてから夏の補強に取り組みたい考えであり、アプローチを続けていく構えのようだ。

「高価な食べ物はない」ギネス記録樹立、C・ロナウドのあの肉体の秘訣を専属シェフが明かす
