スペインサッカー連盟(RFEF)は22日、スペイン代表を率いるルイス・デ・ラ・フエンテ監督(62)との契約を2026年まで延長したことを発表した。これにより、同監督は2026年北中米ワールドカップ(W杯)までチームを率いることになる。
カタールW杯後にルイス・エンリケ氏の後任としてラ・ロハの新指揮官に就任したデ・ラ・フエンテ監督。就任以降はここまで9勝1敗の戦績を残し、昨年6月に行われたUEFAネーションズリーグ・ファイナルズではクロアチアを撃破し、同国に初優勝をもたらした。
RFEFは今回のタイミングでの契約延長に関して、ユーロ2024本大会に向けて代表チームに安定をもたらす意味合いがあると説明している。
現役時代にはアスレティック・ビルバオ、セビージャ、アラベスでプレー。引退後はビルバオ・アスレティック(Bチーム)で監督キャリアをスタート。その後、アラベスでも監督を務めると、2013年にU-19スペイン代表の監督に就任。U-18スペイン代表も含め、2018年まで指揮すると、2018年からはU-21スペイン代表を務めた。
2015年にはU-19スペイン代表を率いてU-19欧州選手権を制すると、2019年にはU-21スペイン代表を率いてU-21欧州選手権で優勝。2021年夏には東京オリンピックにも出場したチームを率い、銀メダル獲得に導いた。

「激アツ」「どっちも可愛い」長谷川唯の“激レア”スペイン代表ユニフォーム姿が話題! イニエスタにも例えられるボンマティの日本代表ユニも話題「なんかエモい」
