EFLリーグ1(イングランド3部)のイプスウィッチは31日、元イングランド代表MFでU-23チームで指揮を執るキーロン・ダイアー監督(42)が、肝臓移植が必要であることを報告した。
ダイアー監督は、イプスウィッチの下部組織出身で、1996年7月にファーストチーム昇格。1999年7月にニューカッスルへと移籍し、一気に飛躍する。
ニューカッスルで中心選手となったほか、イングランド代表にも招集を受けると、2002年の日韓ワールドカップにも出場するなど33試合に出場していた。
その後はウェストハムやイプスウィッチ、QPR、ミドルズブラでプレー。2013年7月に現役を引退すると、2020年10月からイプスウィッチのU-23チームで監督に就任していた。
クラブの発表によると、ダイアー監督は原発性硬化性胆管炎を発症。日本では「指定難病」となっており、「胆管が狭くなり、胆汁の流れが滞り悪くなるとともに肝臓の働きが悪くなる病気」とされている。ダイアー氏は、ここ数年肝臓に問題を抱えていたとのことで、現在は移植が必要なほど悪い状態のようだ。
また「私は自分をとてもポジティブな人間だと思っており、この小さな挫折を乗り越えられると思っている。この1週間、クラブ、サポーター、そして一般の方から届いた応援メッセージにとても感謝している」とコメントした。

フレッチャーの16歳息子2人、世代別代表でスコットランドとイングランドを行ったり来たり…協会どうしが火花
