バートンのアイルランド人MFトーマス・オコナー(22)が2試合連続でCKを直接決めた。

サウサンプトンの育成組織出身のオコナーは2019年のトップチーム昇格後、EFLリーグ1(イングランド3部)のジリンガムへとレンタルで加入。2年間のローンを経た後に、サウサンプトンとの契約が満了となり、今季からはバートンへ加入していた。

16日に行われたリーグ1第13節のモアカム戦では1点ビハインドの5分、オコナーが右CKから左足でニアへ低くて速いクロスを送ると、GKが処理をし切れずにゴールイン。この試合では、オコナーは後半の開始早々にも得点を奪っている。

続く20日の第14節フリート・ウッド戦ではゴールレスで迎えた36分だ。同じく右CKから、今度は遠いサイドを狙った高いボールを送ると、誰にも触れられることなくネットを揺らした。

リーグ1の公式ツイッターは、このオコナー2本のCKを紹介。2019年のリーグ1で、FK1本とCK2本でハットトリックを達成したウィコムのジョー・ヤコブソンのキックと比較し、両者の功績を称えている。
