アジアサッカー連盟(AFC)は4日、AFCチャンピオンズリーグ(ACL)2021からオーストラリア勢の参加辞退を発表した。
今月末から東地区でも予選やプレーオフ、そしてグループステージがいよいよスタート。オーストラリア勢からはシドニーFC、メルボルン・シティ、ブリスベン・ロアーの3クラブが参戦予定だが、不参加の申し出を受けたという。
グループステージから参戦するシドニーFCはH組に入り、ガンバ大阪と同居。メルボルン・シティは21日のプレーオフでセレッソ大阪戦に臨み、ブリスベン・ロアーも20日に行われる予選1回戦のカヤ・イロイロ(フィリピン)戦を予定した。
なお、AFCは詳細こそ明らかにされていないものの、オーストラリアサッカー連盟から受けたという不参加意向について、委員会に委託され、決定が近日中に発表される見通しだという。
