波紋を広げるヨーロッパ・スーパーリーグ(ESL)構想に関して、デイビッド・ベッカム氏も意見を述べた。
18日にイングランド、イタリア、スペインの12のメガクラブが共同声明を発表し、ついに明るみとなったESL構想。現在のサッカー界のシステムを覆すもので、多くのクラブや選手、有識者が挙って否定的な意見を示している。
そんな中、メジャー・リーグ・サッカーのインテル・マイアミの共同オーナーを務めるベッカム氏もインスタグラムを通じて言及。既存の価値を守れなければ、フットボールは危険に晒されることになるとの考えを示した。
「私もフットボールを愛する一人間だ。覚えている限りずっと前から人生の一部だった。子供の頃からファンとして大好きだったし、今でもそう。選手として、さらにはオーナーとして、私はスポーツがファンあってのものだと信じている」
「我々はフットボールを皆のために存在するものにしなければならない。フェアなものにしなければならない。そして、全てのコンペティションは実績や貢献度に基づくものでなければならない」

ユナイテッドの伝説的受付係のフィップスさんが85歳で逝去…「ワン・ウーマンの象徴です」
