翌日にチャンピオンズリーグ(CL)の新フォーマットの発表が迫っていた中、突如として12クラブが参加を公式に表明し、サッカー界を激震させたESL構想。多くの反対意見が飛び交っており、FIFAやUEFAも直ちに声明を発表。しばらく熱りが冷めることはなさそうだ。
そんな中、ディエゴ・マラドーナ・ジュニア氏も否定的な考えを持っている模様。イタリアラジオ『CRC』に出演した際に、ESL構想に対して「すぐに中止すべき」と切って落とし、全面否定の姿勢を見せた。
「私が気に入らないのは、12クラブがESLに参加し、彼らがより多くの金儲けを望んでいることを認めたという事実だ。サッカーでは全員が平等な権利を持っているはずだ。これは良くないよ」
