かつてシカゴ・ブルズなどNBAのスター選手として活躍したバスケ界のレジェンドであるデニス・ロッドマン氏(59)の娘がプロデビューを果たした。ロッドマン氏の娘であるFWトリニティ・ロッドマン(18)は、アメリカ女子プロサッカーリーグ'(NWSL)のワシントン・スピリットにドラフト1巡目、全体2位で加入。ワシントン州立大学に入学したものの大学リーグが新型コロナウイルスの影響で中止されたことでプロ転向を決めたこともあり、史上最年少でのドラフト選手となった。
U-20アメリカ女子代表としても活躍するトリニティは、NBAで活躍した父の遺伝子を受け継いだのか、高い身体能力が評価されている。
そのトリニティ・ロッドマンは、10日に行われたNWSLチャレンジカップ(プレシーズンのカップ戦)のノースカロライナ・カレッジ戦でデビューを果たした。
試合は、なでしこジャパンのFW横山久美のゴールでワシントン・スピリットが先制。しかし、その後3失点を喫して逆転を許してしまう。
ハーフウェイライン付近からのロングフィードを走りながらトラップ。ボックス手前から前に出たGK野分を抜くシュートを沈めた。
しかし、試合はそのまま2-3でノースカロライナ・カレッジが勝利していた。
